About The Role
TPG is seeking a Disaster Recovery Health Specialist to act as a liaison between the Regional and Central Offices of Head Start (OHS), the National Center on Health and Wellness, and other relevant agencies. The Disaster Recovery Health Specialist will support the mission of Head Start and provide expertise to other Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Specialists on mental health, trauma-informed care, disaster recovery support, and safety in compliance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards for children from birth to age five.

About The Role
TPG is seeking a Disaster Recovery Health Specialist to act as a liaison between the Regional and Central Offices of Head Start (OHS), the National Center on Health and Wellness, and other relevant agencies. The Disaster Recovery Health Specialist will support the mission of Head Start and provide expertise to other Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) Specialists on mental health, trauma-informed care, disaster recovery support, and safety in compliance with the Head Start Program Performance Standards for children from birth to age five.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise, strategies, and resources to the Office of Head Start (OHS) Regional Office and TTA staff on comprehensive health services, such as mental health and environmental health and safety, as well as strategies for engaging staff and families around issues on health.
- Serve as a member of a national peer group of Health Specialists from each of the twelve regions.
- Develop and implement strategies for connecting with grantee health managers and/or coordinators in the Region.
- Aggregate, analyze, and disseminate regional and grantee health data from existing government systems to identify emerging trends impacting Head Start grantees.
- Develop and provide presentations and training on topics related to early childhood health, trauma-informed care, mental health, disaster recovery, safety, and other related topics.
- Serves as a liaison between the Office of Head Start, the National Center responsible for health and wellness, and other relevant agencies.
- Coordinate with Family Specialists on key topics to support grant recipients with blended family service/health positions.
- Provide direct TTA services to individual grantees at the direction of the Office of Head Start (OHS) Regional Office.
- Support emerging Office of Head Start initiatives and priorities.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college in public health, health education, maternal and child health, health administration, or related degree, such as psychology, social work, or early childhood mental health.
- Three years of experience in mental health, trauma-informed care, disaster recovery support and safety in early childhood programs such as Head Start/Early Head Start, maternal and child health, school health, or community health programs specific to the development and implementation of comprehensive health services.
- Experience providing training and technical assistance related to health services for children birth to five, including work with management teams and program staff.
- Experience with programs and/or agencies serving children ages birth to five and families from diverse backgrounds such as children with special health care needs, children with disabilities, children who are dual language learners, children in family childcare settings, and/or children who are homeless.
- Experience facilitating group discussions and presenting to a range of audiences using a variety of formats to include virtual.
- Experience using health-related data and helping programs make data-driven decisions.
- Knowledge of Head Start program performance standards and federal regulations.
- Ability to type 55 wpm.
- Experience in Head Start/Early Head Start.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
- Experience using virtual platforms and technologies, i.e., Adobe, Teams, etc.
- Experience communicating, both orally and in writing, to various audiences.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work with all levels of internal staff, outside clients and vendors.
- Complete a Drug Test.
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Be able to obtain a Tier 1, Non-sensitive Public Trust (Low Risk) Clearance.
- Available to travel as necessary.
- A valid US Driver’s license.
- Applicants selected will be subject to a government background investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Residency requirement - 3 consecutive years in the last 5 years.
- Internal background check to the satisfaction of contract requirements.
- This is a remote opportunity where occasional travel will be required, as needed. Since this is a remote role, must have a dedicated workspace conducive to full videoconferencing (camera and audio) for facilitating webinars and online discussions.

- This is a full-time position that typically works business hours Monday through Friday. Hours may vary depending on needs and may at times, include travel, evenings, or weekends to meet specific project requirements.
- Standing/Walking/Mobility: Must have mobility to walk sites and attend meetings with other stakeholders and employees.
- Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: 10% of the time.
- Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 10% of the time.
- Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write, type, and use a telephone system 100% of the time.
