About The Role
The Family Engagement Specialist (FES) position provides subject matter expertise on a broad variety of topics related to Parent Family and Community Engagement (PFCE). The FES’ provides support and consultation both internally and externally to Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) team members, grantees, Office of Head Start (OHS) Regional Office and State and regional partners. FES serves on the National PFCE Content Implementation Team (CIT), as well as other national and local committees based on need and expertise.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise, strategies, and resources to the Office of Head Start (OHS) Regional Office and Training and Technical Assistance (TTA) staff on comprehensive parent, family, and community engagement, including strategies for engaging families.
- Develop and implement strategies for connecting with grant recipient PFCE managers, coordinators and/or other family services staff in the Region to support grant recipients with implementation of Parent and Family Community Engagement (PFCE) goals and early childhood education workforce development.
- Serve as a member of a national peer group of Family Engagement Specialists from each of the twelve regions.
- Aggregate, analyze and disseminate regional and grantee data from existing government systems to identify emerging trends impacting Head Start grantees.
- Develop and provide presentations and training on topics related to family engagement.
- Provide training to groups of grantees at regional and state events, as directed by the Office of Head Start (OHS) Regional Office.
- Provide direct TTA services to individual grantees, at the direction of the Office of Head Start (OHS) Regional Office.
- Serve as a liaison between the Office of Head Start (OHS) and the National Center responsible for parent, family and community engagement.
- Participate in national, regional, and state work groups and meetings as directed by the OHS.
- Support emerging Office of Head Start initiatives and priorities.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in social work, human services, family services, counseling, or a related field.
- Three years' experience related to human services and/or parent, family, and community engagement in early childhood programs such as Head Start/Early Head Start and/or community-based childcare providers and partners (I.e., FCC, privately owned)
- 1 years of experience working within programs and services for families with children birth to five.
- 1 years of experience analyzing data and helping programs make data-driven decisions related to providing services to families with young children.
- 1 years of experience in facilitating group discussions and presenting to a range of audiences.
- 1 years of experience working with diverse children, families, staff, and communities and training and facilitating groups of learners.
- 1 years of experience communicating both orally and in writing to various audiences.
- Ability to type 45 wpm.
- Knowledgeable of Head Start Performance Standards and all applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
- Experience working within a Head Start Program.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) is required.
- Experience using virtual platforms and technologies, i.e., Adobe, Teams, etc.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work with all levels of internal staff, outside clients and vendors.
- Complete a Drug Test.
- Be at least 21 years of age.
- Be able to obtain a Tier 2, Non-sensitive Public Trust (Moderate Risk) Clearance.
- Available to travel as necessary.
- A valid US Driver’s license.
- Applicants selected will be subject to a government background investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
- Must be a U.S Citizen or Permanent Resident.
- Residency requirement - 3 consecutive years in the last 5 years.
- Internal background check to the satisfaction of contract requirements.
- This is a remote opportunity where occasional travel will be required, as needed. Since this is a remote role, must have a dedicated workspace conducive to full videoconferencing (camera and audio) for facilitating webinars and online discussions. Services provided in-person or virtually as determined by the Office of Head Start (OHS) Regional Office.
- Must Reside in one of the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, or Wisconsin.
- This is a full-time position that typically works business hours Monday through Friday. Hours may vary depending on needs and may at times include travel, evenings, or weekends to meet specific project requirements.
- Standing/Walking/Mobility: Must have mobility to walk sites and attend meetings with other stakeholders and employees.
- Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: 10% of the time.
- Lifting/Pulling/Pushing: 10% of the time.
- Fingering/Grasping/Feeling: Must be able to write, type, and use a telephone system 100% of the time.
- Sitting: Sitting for prolonged and extended periods.
