Summary
The Computer Support Technician maintains and services the essential technologies deployed throughout the organization, including public internet computers, staff computers, circulation computers and software, and peripherals including printers, scanners, and card readers.
Level of Work
Employee knows and understands work requirements and completes tasks with limited direction. There is some opportunity for making independent decisions, requiring both judgment and interpretation from diverse procedures. Work is sometimes standardized and sometimes more varied. May make recommendations for procedures, policies and practices. Solves moderate problems within general parameters. General supervision provided.
Responsibilities
- Deploys, maintains, repairs, and troubleshoots public and staff computers and workstations.
- Services out of order printers, scanners, card readers, and self check out stations.
- Assists in system wide software distribution and updates.
- Assists in daily and weekly system and network maintenance.
- Supports window servers, backup and restore data, and runs system reports and statistics.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requirements
- Associate degree in computer science, or one year of college or trade school and three or more years of directly related experience required.
- Strong knowledge of computer hardware.
- Strong knowledge of operating systems, preferably Windows, and experience working in a networked environment.
- Ability and willingness to learn new computer systems as needed.
- Knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Entra, and Office 365.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent concentration skills, with the ability to focus on a task over long periods of time.
- Nature of work requires an ability to effectively communicate and exchange information, collect, compile and prepare work documents and operate standard business office equipment.
- Mental stamina is recommended, due to extended periods of time spent on one or a few problem devices.
- Travel to other library branches required daily.
- Majority of work is performed in a general office / library environment.
- Availability for on-call, extended and non-traditional hours as needed to perform job duties.
- Must be capable of moving up to 50 lbs of equipment, such as printers, copiers, several desktops at a time, etc.
