GENERAL DESCRIPTION (1-3 LINES DESCRIBING ROLE):
The Finance Manager is responsible for managing and overseeing the day-to-day financial operations with a strong emphasis on supporting the Public Schools of Northborough policies. This position directs and oversees all business management affairs and prepares financial analyses of operations, including monthly financial statements to present to the Executive Director, Assistant Superintendent of Finance, and Assistant Superintendent of Operations. This position involves bookkeeping, audits, grant management, and other operating areas that have a financial impact on NEDP. The Finance Manager will model the vision and mission of the Public Schools of Northborough.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting, or another business-related field
- 4 years' experience in accounting and/or financial analysis with a strong emphasis on tax-exempt organizations
- Solid understanding and experience with federal and state tax compliance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates professionalism with staff, parents/guardians, and participants.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills.
- Strong management experience.
- Excellent business judgment, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Strong demonstrated use of Excel, word, and PowerPoint.
- The capacity to work independently.
- The ability to maintain professional boundaries.
- The ability to empathize with others.
- Must be able to pass all background checks (CORI, SORI, DCF, Fingerprinting, etc.)
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES (NOT LIMITED TO):
- Communicate with the director regarding all financial matters for approvals.
- Prepare the annual budget and present it to the Assistant Superintendent of Finance
- Collaborate with Assistant Superintendent of Finance to support year end audit with external auditors to complete year-end financial statements and federal/state tax filing.
- Oversee and maintain the use of financial accounting system software.
- Prepare weekly and monthly journal entries, accruals, financial statements, statistical data, and budget variance reports.
- Prepare end of month actual vs. budget statements for each program site and for the organization.
- Monthly reconcile all general ledger accounts and bank statements.
- Attend meetings as needed to present the financial statements, annual budget, and annual audit.
- Establish and maintain appropriate accounting internal controls compliant with accounting policies and regulatory requirements.
- Manage all employee benefits: including contract renewals, open enrollment, and employee payroll deductions.
- Support accounts payable invoices and cash disbursements.
- Manage and register all children in the program, prepare attendance sheets, and manage schedule change requests.
- Prepare and invoice families monthly, collect tuition, prepare receipts, and send reminders as needed for past-due notices.
- Process voucher billing to families and collect payment from families who have parent fees.
- Collaborate with the Finance Department and email all families year-end tax statements.
- Communicate effectively with students, colleagues, parents, and the community
- Follow safety procedures and written and verbal instructions
- Consistent and on-time attendance is required for supervision and instruction of the students
- Other duties as needed
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in a school/office environment during the school day, however there may be occasions for after school meetings.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the finance manager is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, and hear. The finance manager is regularly required to bend, stoop, crouch and/or kneel. The finance manager is occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Must have sufficient mobility to navigate within a large school building. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close-up vision, distance, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The job requires high levels of alertness and concentration.
