We offer cancer care in Honolulu, West Oahu and on Hawaii Island and provide a personalized, comprehensive approach to each patient’s unique diagnosis.
 
JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides high-quality, coordinated, comprehensive, team-based, and patient-centered care for patients of The Queen’s Health System’s hospitals and clinics, and other hospitals and clinics, as applicable, in the area of medical oncology and hematology.
  • May engage in academic medical/clinical education, training, supervision, evaluation, and research
  • Works cooperatively within collaborative practice models.
  • Supports the vision and values to enhance the provision of quality health care and optimize the health status of QHS patients, and supports The Queen’s Medical Center’s (QMC) Mission to fulfill the intent of Queen Emma and King Kamehameha IV to provide in perpetuity quality health care services to improve the well-being of Native Hawaiians and all of the people of Hawai`i.
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides office-based, ambulatory, and hospital-based medical oncology and hematologic care, as requested. Clinical responsibilities may include, but are not limited to bone marrow biopsy and interpretation, diagnostic lumbar puncture, oversight of administration of chemotherapeutic agents and biological response modifiers through all therapeutic routes, management and maintenance on indwelling venous access catheters, and therapeutic thoracentesis and paracentesis.
  • Performs outpatient and inpatient consultations, as requested.
  • Specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of all types of cancer and other benign and malignant tumors, and admits, evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and provides consultation to patients of all ages, except as specifically excluded from practice, on all types of cancer and other benign and malignant tumors. 
  • Provides physician oversight of chemotherapy administration, consults with other specialists on cancer treatments.
  • Participates in tumor boards and other oncology related department meetings.
  • Performs procedures and appropriate follow up care. 
  • Arranges appropriate coverage of patients and consultations when not available. 
  • Provides timely, accurate and consistent communications with primary care and consulting Physicians. 
  • Maintains accurate records on all clinic patients.
  • Interacts positively with patients and staff.
  • Assists in maintaining clinic accreditations, certifications, licensures, meeting all hospital, corporate, and government policies and regulations for assigned area.
  • Assists in education of staff.
  • Assists administration in determining appropriate staffing and other operational issues.
  • Assists in quality assurance programs of the department. Participates in quality assurance activities and assists in implementing quality assurance tasks and activities.
  • Maintains clinical expertise by regular participation in continuing medical education programs.
  • Participates directly in seminars, lectures, grand rounds, presentations, and various research projects, and may participate in teaching and supervision of medical students and residents.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or EC FMG certification.
  • Completion of a residency or fellowship training program approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.
  • Current board certification in Medical Oncology by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty certification board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or the AOA.  If not board certified, board certification must be obtained within two (2) years of entrance into the position.
  • During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the applicable QHS hospitals’ medical staffs in good standing with appropriate privileges without restriction.
  • Qualified for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, preferred.
  • One (1) year post residency experience preferred.

Base salary begins at $624,000 /year with opportunity for productivity and quality incentives.
