JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides inpatient and outpatient pediatric medicine services to the Queen’s North Hawaii Community Hospital (QNHCH) and affiliated clinics through direct patient care.  Supports and implements appropriate practices and protocols to provide high quality and consistent care.
 
CLINICAL Responsibilities
Works with QNHCH and The Queens Health System (QHS) to develop consistent and high quality practice.
  • Assists in Physician and staff education.
  • Assists in quality programs and develops new programs, including appropriate medical record review and reporting.
  • Participates in system wide initiatives towards quality improvement e.g. QHS pediatric hale.
Provides pediatric care at QNHCH’s pediatric clinic.
  • Examines patients, obtains medical histories, and treats acute and chronic illnesses.
  • Orders performs and interprets diagnostic tests.
  • Involves parent and/or guardian in care and treatment decisions.
  • Considers thorough range of treatment/preventative options and arrives at a recommended course of action that is age appropriate, culturally appropriate, realistic and attainable.
  • Appropriately manages patient care and health status following initiation of treatment/preventive plan and monitors and adjusts as warranted.
  • Communicates effectively with patients and family so that they understand their diagnosis, treatment plans and need for follow-up care.
  • Seeks consultation and advises by providing adequate information to consulting physicians.
  • Communicates requests effectively or responds to such requests from the referral source in a courteous, professional and timely manner.
  • Delegates the direct and indirect patient care activities to appropriate personnel.
Provides pediatric care in appropriate and timely fashion at QNHCH when consulted:
  • Evaluates, treats and manages newborn patients.
  • Evaluates and manages pediatric patients for observation and admission.
  • Provides ongoing care for hospitalized patients.
  • Participates in the transfer process for pediatric patients.
  • Provides consultation in the Emergency Department.
  • Responds to pediatric resuscitations and provides clinical expertise.
  • Provides Consultation for pediatric patients in North Hawaii ambulatory clinics as requested.
Completion of required clinical documentation all done timely, accurately, legibly and in compliance with QNHCH guidelines and CMS regulations.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Medicine or EC FMG certification.
  • Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Hawaii.
  • Current board certification in Pediatrics. If not board certified, board certification must be obtained within five years from the date of completion of residency or fellowship training.
  • PALS and NRP certification.
  • During the period of employment, shall be and remain a member of the QNHCH Medical Staff in good standing with appropriate privileges without restriction. 
  • Qualified for an appointment on the faculty of the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine, preferred.
 
Base salary begins at $254,884/year with opportunity for productivity and quality incentives.
