Controller - Family Office
The Family Office Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the family office, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and the efficient management of family assets. This position requires strong financial management, accounting expertise, and a deep understanding of complex financial structures, tax matters, and investment reporting. The Family Office Controller will work closely with family members, external advisors, and internal teams to manage financial reporting, budgeting, auditing, and other key financial functions for the family office.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements for the family office and its subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards
- Prepare and present regular financial reports to family members, investment committees, and key stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of investment portfolios, including private equity, real estate, and other family assets.
- Manage cash flow across family office accounts, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operational needs, investments, and distributions.
- Develop and maintain short- and long-term cash flow forecasts, identifying potential cash flow concerns and recommending solutions.
- Lead the annual budgeting process, working with family members and management teams to set financial targets and goals.
- Monitor actual performance against the budget, providing regular variance analysis and recommendations for corrective action.
- Oversee all aspects of tax planning, ensuring the family office and its entities are in compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- Work with external tax advisors to implement tax-efficient strategies and ensure timely filing of tax returns for family members, trusts, and other entities.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and industry standards, coordinating audits with external auditors when necessary.
- Oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger maintenance.
- Ensure that the financial systems, internal controls, and processes are efficient, secure, and comply with industry best practices.
- Review and recommend improvements to operational processes and controls
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA preferred.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting or financial management in a family office, private equity, or wealth management environment.
- Experience managing multi-entity financial structures, including trusts, LLCs, and other legal entities.
- Strong understanding of financial systems, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact with high-net-worth individuals and external advisors.
- Advanced proficiency in financial software and Excel.
Salary : $150,000 - $200,000
