The Ranch of Opportunity works with girls ages 13-17 that have experienced a high prevalence of traumatic events. The Ranch offers a peaceful and spacious environment, away from the pressure of an urban setting and the negative influence of peers. It will provide a healthy setting for adolescents to live, learn and develop. The Ranch is now hiring for Life Skills Coach. This position will normally be scheduled to work on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for up to 24 hours a week.
The responsibility of the Life Skills Coach is to work with the teenage clients teaching them life skills which will help them gain independence and help move them forward in life. The Life Skills Coach will work one-on-one or in small groups to help clients with unique challenges such as hygiene, handling money, establishing and working with a budget, writing a resume, interviewing skills, looking for housing, finding available resources for various needs, cooking, etc.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work with clients on teaching them basic skills like how to apply and fill out a job application, interview role playing, writing a resume, how to open a bank account, write a check and pay bills, establish a budget, how to search for housing, how to pick a roommate, how to use local resources in times of need, etc.
- Network to help provide clients with valuable tools and available resources and to schedule guest lectures to clients.
- Create and engage clients in with community involvement activities.
- Tutor and mentor clients.
- Assist with employment preparation and job placement for clients.
- Enhance current curriculum to include volunteer service and outside educators.
- Take clients out on field trips to teach and expose them to such experiences like homeless shelters, food pantries, housing, job opportunities, public transportation, schooling, etc.
- Take clients out on field trips to focus on community integrations skills, how to interact appropriate in a public setting and how to communicate with people outside of the facility.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred OR High School diploma/GED and at least 3 years of experience in behavioral health.
- 3 years or more of experience working with children/adolescents is preferred.
- Demonstrated computer literacy as well as acceptable written/oral skills.
- Possess the ability to work in partnership with other team members.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and have proof of auto insurance.
- Must be patience while also being able to set limits while maintaining the helping role when working with the residential clients.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 per hour
