Description: The Direct Care Professional is accessible at The Recovery Connection's residential program location to oversee and ensure consistency of program expectations and overall operations. The Direct Care Professional provides day-to-day support to clients in the program, as well as executes administrative duties in alignment with general duties and responsibilities. The Direct Care Professional will report to the Program Director as his or her immediate supervisor.
General Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides supervision and oversight to ensure safety and program compliance; performs appropriate tasks based on shift and residential service;
- Provides non-clinical face-to-face interactions that support and encourage clients achieving their level of recovery, wellness, independence and personal strengths per the client’s treatment plan with the appropriate use of boundaries;
- Provides collaborative services to clients via support, interaction, accessibility, monitoring; maintains proper and accurate documentation through various reports and related communications within appropriate health record system / information database;
- Effectively delivers and performs direct care systems and processes;
- Works with leads and supervisor in ensuring consistency and understanding of processes and overall duties within the role;
- Records daily progress and behavior reports from interactions, conversations, events and issues using a professional, objective style and voice; appropriately navigates communication workflow in the event of an urgent need or issue;
- Exercises mature judgment in appraising a situation and adopting an effective course of action;
- Tracks admissions and discharges to communicate with billing staff;
- Has a firm understanding of relevant state and federal laws, regulations, policies and procedures;
- Supports health and safety procedures and monitoring via assigned tasks;
- Conducts appropriate medication administration protocols based on residential service / location; maintains proper documentation utilizing appropriate platform / EMR.
- Conducts and observe urine drug screens and/or breathalyzer tests – prepares for lab send-off as appropriate;
- Conducts room searches as needed/appropriate;
- Conducts client intakes and move-in procedures;
- Other tasks / duties assigned as needed and appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- If in recovery, a minimum of 1 year clean and sober
- Must consent to criminal background check, including a fingerprint check
- Must complete TB Screening
- Once hired, must complete all required trainings and orientation in a timely manner
- Knowledge and understanding of mental illness, including substance use disorder
- Acceptance of various pathways to recovery
- Willingness to stay teachable in the field
Competencies & Skills:
- Must have an interest and passion in working with substance use and co-occurring mental health population
- Must have strong communication skills via direct interaction, electronic health record, phone and email
- Must be competent in basic computer skills such as web browsing, email, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
- Must have ability to follow written and oral instructions, as well as read and comprehend training manuals
- Must be able to practice empathy, compassion and healthy communication skills
- Must be capable of implementing appropriate boundaries and working in an ethically sound environment
- Must be detail-oriented and effectively manage job duties
- Must be capable of prioritizing and meeting deadlines
- Must be punctual and arrive on time for scheduled shifts, as well as remain active during shifts
- Ability to work flexible hours and unconventional schedules such as evenings, weekends and holidays
