- Position: Become a Recreation Academy Staff Member
- Role: Engage children through play, teach them valuable soft skills, and guide their growth during your sessions. Enjoy working with kids at schools, rec centers, and more with the added benefit of a flexible schedule—you decide when and where you work, as well as what you teach. (Minimum of 1-year experience working with children professionally required.)
Programs
- Before and Aftercare: Oversee and entertain children outside school hours. Plan activities, assist with homework, typically within 3 to 5-hour sessions.
- After School Clubs: Run a variety of clubs such as Kickball, Dodgeball, Gaga Ball, Drone Racing, Pokemon Trading Card Game, Minecraft, and more. (90-minute sessions, once a week for 6 weeks.)
- Day Camps: Engage in Summer, Winter, and Spring day camps. (3-7 hour sessions per day, 4-5 days a week.)
- Sports Clinics: Teach basketball, flag football, pickleball, and wiffleball. (1-2 hour sessions, once a week for 6 weeks.)
- Events/Private Bookings: Facilitate games and activities for birthday parties, Parent's Night Out events, and more. (1-3 hour sessions.)
Pay and Scheduling
- Compensation: Starting at $16.50 per hour for new summer staff, with the opportunity for pay increases based on performance.
- Scheduling: All positions are part-time, and shifts are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis through our staff portal. Full-time availability is possible during summer months.
Duties
- Comprehend and adhere to all Recreation Academy Policies & Procedures by watching the Staff Training Video and reviewing the Staff Manual.
- Lead and instruct participants in after-school clubs, camps, sports clinics, and special events/private bookings.
- Ensure participant management and safety.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors.
- Summarize each session and complete incident reports as required.
- Provide minor First Aid and manage emergency medications as necessary.
- Plan and prepare for sessions according to approved methods and gather supplies.
- Travel to various locations based on your preferred assignments.
- Interact with parents during drop-offs and pick-ups.
- Offer constructive feedback and seek assistance when needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned or as they arise during sessions.
Requirements
- At least 1 year of experience working with children professionally.
- 2 years of applicable experience at a youth organization (preferred).
- Reliable, insured transportation with the capability to travel to various locations regularly.
- Current health insurance or a workman’s compensation policy for the contract duration.
- Pass a criminal background check, sex offender screening, and complete mandated reporter training.
Additional Information
- All positions are part-time, and staff are independent contractors (1099).
- Recreation Academy does not withhold taxes or provide Workman's Comp insurance or unemployment benefits.
- Criminal background check and mandated reporter training are required and provided free of charge.
