What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant Director Red Barn Youth Center position at The Red Barn Association?
The Assistant Director works with Executive Director to ensure youth attending Red Barn Youth Center’s After-School Program are safely and adequately supervised while providing activities and events for youth to engage in.
The Assistant Director performs a wide range of duties including the following: Program Management:
Assists Executive Director with program content development and implementation.
Act in Executive Director’s absence to ensure program is delivered in accordance with mission.
Mentor and be a positive role model for youth.
Communicate with parents and guardians.
Plan, lead, supervise, and evaluate activities.
Supervise youth outside and inside building.
Create, oversee, support, and/or run clubs such as Book Club and Cooking Club.
Ability to set guidelines and follow through with approved discipline procedures.
Assist with the planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of special projects, such as the Farm Tour, All Hallow’s Eve, and Rotary’s December Party.
Assist Executive Director with overseeing Program Assistants and helping with their evaluations.
Community Relations: Represent Red Barn Youth Center at community events and meetings, as needed, to enhance the organization's community profile.
Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians, and other organizations to help achieve the goals of Red Barn Youth Center.
Talk with potential donors that call or drop into Red Barn Youth Center.
Data management:
Assist Executive Director with record capture, surveys, registration packets, and sign-in sheets.
Assist with program evaluation framework to assess the strengths of the program and to identify areas for improvement.
Capture data needed for program stats used in grant reporting, partner reports, and social media posts.
Ensure that staff, youth, donor, and volunteer files are securely stored and privacy/confidentiality is maintained.
Volunteer Interaction:
Ensure that volunteer check-in procedures are followed.
Identify assignments that provide meaningful work for volunteers.
Promote volunteer program.
Ensure that volunteers receive the appropriate level of supervision.
Financial Responsibilities: Assist with the acceptance of donations and provide donation receipts, as needed.
Process cash or checks in accordance with financial protocols.
Deposit funds in bank, as needed.
Purchase items for programs or building needs.
Additional Duties: Perform general housekeeping tasks such as trash disposal, sweeping, cleaning, etc.
Help maintain clean and safe equipment and program area.
Assist in kitchen, as needed.
Input daily hours worked into Excel Timesheet provided by bookkeeper.
Job Requirements:
Available to be on site between the hours of 2:15 pm -6:15 pm on Peninsula School District in session days.
Commitment and dedication to Red Barn Youth Center mission, vision and rules.
Must pass background check.
Experience working in an adolescent program.
Secondary Education preferred.
Grant research, writing, and reporting experience preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Organizational management skills.
Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, presentation software, database applications, and design software.
First Aid/CPR Training, Youth Mental Health First Aid, and Food Handlers Permit (able to obtain on the job).
Valid Driver’s License.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
This position may involve lifting, bending, standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, and grasping. Must be able to demonstrate and/or describe activities to youth. This position works around youth and adults with a moderate exposure to noise. This position will work both indoors and outdoors.
