A Brief Overview

Responsible for injury prevention and community outreach coordination to meet Tennessee ,Mississippi and Arkansas State Level I Trauma and Burn Center designation requirements as well as to meet standards set by the American College of Surgeons and American Burn Association to maintain Level I Trauma and Burn Center Verification. Collects, analyzes and acts upon data provided by the trauma / burn registry to develop outreach and injury prevention interventions in the community. Maintains the highest knowledge of injury prevention and outreach for Regional One Trauma and Burn Services. Must possess the interpersonal skills to work with a diverse public and the presentation skills to lead group activities, teach classes and provide information to a wide range of groups (medical and nonmedical personnel). The objectives of the Trauma / Burn Injury Prevention and Outreach Program are to (1) educate the community about injury prevention and trauma / burn care; to indirectly decrease death and injury by improving trauma and burn prevention activities within the region (2) raise the visibility of Regional One Health through increasing public awareness by generating positive media coverage through community outreach efforts.

What you will do

  • Coordinates and performs administrative functions and activities of approved programs' goals to meet established objectives for the Burn / Trauma Injury Prevention Outreach program.
  • Implements activities in accordance with established protocols, policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a department representative in implementing and promoting activities, campaigns and special events to build positive relationships, and provide education.
  • Participates on various internal and external committees.
  • Maintains awareness of financial issues, cost containment and resources necessary for program operations.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of educational and program services and makes adjustments / recommendations as needed to improve referrals and services.
  • Identifies informational and communication linkages to hospital staff, physicians and the community, which enhances growth of existing and new Burn / Trauma services and programs.
  • Participates in educational and service programs; provides informational materials and develops support and community partners for programs.
  • Serves as a Burn / Trauma center representative in implementing and promoting injury prevention activities, campaigns and special events (i.e. safety fairs, injury prevention activities, tabling, media interviews) to advance community relations. Examples of injury prevention activities include but not limited to : Distracted driving, elderly fall prevention, home fire safety, stop-drop-roll, stop the bleed, and firearm safe storage.
  • Participates on various committees and task forces for the purpose of reducing injuries.
  • Designs a system to record all outreach activities. Evaluates the effectiveness of educational and program services and makes adjustments / recommendations as needed to improve education and services.
  • Coordinates activities and works effectively with nursing, physicians, corporate communications and other departments, agencies and institutions in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient / customer satisfaction.
  • Works closely with the leadership, faculty and staff of assigned clinical service areas to understand the available services and capabilities.
  • Answers inquiries and communicates information to enhance understanding of Burn / Trauma services and programs.
  • Educates health care providers within the community on injury prevention strategies they can continue without the need for ongoing support.
  • Coordinates and provides reporting of quality / performance / operational review activities and issues in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Reviews Operations Improvement initiatives related to patient intake and outreach referrals.
  • Works closely with assigned clinical service area leadership, faculty and staff to identify and implement specific outreach and communication strategies.
  • Obtains information from referring physicians about the quality of services. Uses the feedback to initiate quality improvement within the medical center and / or targeted clinical service areas.
  • Uses appropriate assessment and data management tools to help monitor physician referral patterns and provide information to the decision support structure within assigned clinical service areas.
  • Coordinates and participates in health fairs and / or educational and service programs, developing support for education / services.
  • Collaborates with Marketing to develop appropriate program materials; assists and advises in the development of marketing materials.
  • Facilitates workshops, professional events and community education programs.
  • Transports and sets up equipment and material as required.
  • Coordinates special projects. Provides research and administrative support and follow-up as required. Provides assistance in developing and preparing proposals for special projects.
  • Compiles, prepares and analyzes various reports, statistics and data.
  • Conducts and assists in the preparation and presentation of data.
  • Utilizes computer and information systems to enter format and retrieve data, generate statistics, computations, tables, charts and graphs.
  • Utilizes analytic skills and statistical analysis to aggregate data to assist with the identification of potential problems and patterns, trends, establish priorities and recommend improvement activities.
  • Maintains required reports, records and files for operational, administrative and compliance purposes.
  • Maintains professional credentials and education is necessary to keep abreast and maintain a current knowledge of clinical / theoretical / performance improvement principles, concepts and techniques, best practices and current trends. Attends continuing education, staff development and mandatory programs.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree Or equivalent in Public Health, Health Care Management or Health Care Administration or related field. Required
  • State Licensed Paramedic will count as an associates degree
  • Bachelor's Degree Or equivalent in Public Health, Health Care Management or Health Care Administration or related field Preferred
  • Valid Drivers' license Required
  • Stop the Bleed Instructor within 30 Days
  • Minimum 3 years experience Equivalent combination of relevant education and / or experience in trauma center, burn center or EMS entity Required
  • Skills in the use of Microsoft Office
