Job Description
The Lower School Lead Teacher serves as the main communicator in the process of conveying knowledge to students in kindergarten through fourth grades and reports directly to the Lower School Division Head. In this capacity, the teacher must display a thorough knowledge of the subject to be taught, work to develop the potential of all students, and demonstrate a positive ability to work harmoniously with others.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties of Lower School Lead Teacher Relating to Faith:
Support and implement the philosophy and mission of Sacred Heart education and that of Regis.
Serve as a positive Christian role model for students, parents, colleagues, and the larger Sacred Heart community.
Actively participate in nurturing the spiritual growth of the community, particularly modeling the five Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria.
Duties of Lower School Lead Teacher Relating to Curriculum and Management:
Implement curriculum as any defined for Sacred Heart schools, addenda written and designed specifically for Regisand by archdiocesan curriculum guides, Texas Education Agency essential knowledge elements, and national standards.
Prepare in advance and according to required format quarterly curriculum maps, and daily lesson plans for instruction, and submit to the Lower School Division Head on the first day of each week.
Maintain complete and precise records (attendance, grading, progress, behavioral, disciplinary, etc.) as required.
Create a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning by displaying student work, maintaining colorful and attractive bulletin boards, arranging furniture/materials to assure effective use of instructional space as well as provide for safety.
Develop a positive classroom environment by maintaining fair and consistent discipline and maximum supervision of students at all times.
Motivate students through active involvement and enthusiastic presentations which stress current research on optimal instructional methods for boys.
Provide for individual differences in abilities and learning styles.
Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, field trips, etc. as assigned.
Use classroom time for efficient and effective instruction which promotes learning.
Evaluate student progress frequently and thoroughly using a variety of methods/tools.
Prepare weekly reports on academic and behavioral progress, interim progress reports, and report cards for parents.
Monitor student use of parent home communications, homework notebooks, etc.
Be knowledgeable of all policies, rules, and regulations as stated in all Regis handbook.
Observe and enforce procedures and policies contained in handbooks with consistency and without discrimination.
Duties of Lower School Lead Teacher Relating to Communication:
Work in a cooperative manner with administration to provide mutual support through sharing of knowledge of class instruction, activities, concerns, and problems.
Work in a cooperative manner with Lower School team members, ancillary teachers, administration, and other staff members to plan and execute activities/ and programs suitable for Lower School students.
Communicate appropriately with parents and students the subject matter that will be taught as well as planned activities.
Encourage and strive to keep open and prompt communication with parents utilizing procedures and formats defined for Regis.
Attend Lower School division meetings and general faculty meetings arriving promptly and providing appropriate input/feedback.
Initiate or participate in teacher/parent/student conferences as needed and required.
Notify the administration immediately of any emergency affecting the safety or welfare of students or staff.
Duties of Lower School Lead Teacher Relating to Professional Performance:
Keep abreast of developments in curriculum and learning.
Take advantage of opportunities to further professional growth.
Fulfill all requirements for professional growth set by Regisand necessary to maintain memberships and accreditations.
Develop a plan for self improvement and enrichment by annually setting personal goals based on the Sacred Heart Goals and Criteria.
Participate in scheduled inservice training programs and attend all meetings as called by the Head of School and theLower School Division Head.
Maintain a professional attitude, appearance, and manner which strengthens respect for the teaching profession and Regis.
Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills in working with students, parents, colleagues, and larger community.
Maintain confidentiality in all matters, thus respecting the rights of students, parents,colleagues, and the school community.
Additional Duties of Lower School Lead Teacher:
Accept willingly any reasonable special assignment and be receptive to making suggestions for improvements that reflect initiative and creativity.
Accept fair share of responsibility for extracurricular activities (examples: academic competitions, holiday programs, Go Texan Day, etc.).
Serve on committees as requested by the administration.
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum of 3 years of classroom experience
- Current Teaching Certificate
- Knowledge of and proficiency with technology in todays 21st Century classroom
- Knowledge of and proficiency with utilizing technology
- CPR certification/Safe Environment training(part of onboarding process)
