Position Description
As a Sacred Heart Educator, the Middle School Social Studies Teachers primary goal is to educate to a global perspective on historical events and how those events shaped cultural and societal formation. This position teaches two sections of Grade 8 U.S. History, two sections of Grade 6 World History, and one section of Grade 5 U.S. History.
Responsibilities
Middle School Classroom:
- Teach Social Studies in multiple grade levels.
- Organize and provide developmentally appropriate boy-centered instruction.
- Provide activities that encourage natural inquiry
- Maintain an open and cooperative relationship with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Participate in Middle School faculty and department meetings and perform various faculty supervisory duties.
- Maintain an online gradebook.
- Submit quality lesson plans in a timely manner.
- Maintain a classroom website, online calendar, and resources.
- Serve as a Middle School Advisor in the Advisory Program.
- Excellent organizational skills, including attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Engage in Professional Development and commit to consistent growth as an educator.
- Effective communication skills, attention to detail, maintain accurate record-keeping.
- Plan and implement curriculum and support a differentiated classroom environment to meet the needs of students.
- Provide activities that encourage innovation, exploration, problem-solving, and effective use of technology.
- Support creative initiatives beyond the classroom that enhance interdisciplinary student learning.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of classroom experience teaching Middle School Social Studies
- Independent School experience is preferable
- Bachelors Degree (minimum)
- Current Teaching Certificate (or sufficient credit hours in content area)
- Experience teaching in the Pre K-8 school environment with a focus on boys education
- Knowledge of and proficiency with utilizing technology
