Position Overview:
The Patient Financial Coordinator will play an integral role as a liaison between the patient and the billing department. For this role you will work on supporting our patients by presenting treatment costs, answering insurance questions, and helping with payment options. Beyond that there will be additional needs such as reviewing schedules for various interventional treatments, answering eligibility & benefit questions, and working on patient accounts receivable.
Key Responsibilities:
Authorization and Eligibility:
- Verify schedules to confirm that patients are eligible and authorized for services.
- Communicate eligibility and authorization status to the local Clinic leads.
- Assist the front desk staff, office managers, and new Patient Registration Coordinators on third-party payer processes.
- Review insured and uninsured patient balances on a weekly and monthly basis.
- Document all client accounts with approved or denied authorizations and communicate relevant information to front desk staff and patients.
Patient Collections:
- Assist with patient communications regarding financial responsibilities, including requirements for self-pay when third-party coverage is not yet authorized.
- Communicate with management, for any nonpayment patient balances.
- Work with billing departments to audit and review accounts for accuracy or patient disputes.
- Support by reviewing the aging report for patient accounts receivable.
Treatment Plan/Patient Engagement:
- Present payment options for treatment plans to the patients and ensuring patients understand the financial responsibility by accepting treatment.
- Help patients understand payment options via CareCredit or other options.
- Create out-of-pocket forms to be able to show payment schedules and any costs associated with care.
- Utilize Outlook, Teams, 8X8 phone dashboard, Advanced MD, Monday Work Management board and other computer systems daily to coordinate patient care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in patient registration or medical billing.
- Experience supporting clinical staff with authorization or payment plans.
- Ability to work cross functionally between various departments such as RCM, Operations, etc.
- Experience working accounts receivable by outbound calling, email, and other means of communication.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret and apply insurance payer billing guidelines, claim rules, and contract terms.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
