Lead Biostatistician


Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
PhD (or foreign equivalent) in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a related field. Five (5) years of full-time experience as a biostatistician, with at least three (3) years of that experience as a biostatistician in an academic research environment. Experience contributing to funded NIH grants as a co-I or biostatistician, with co-authorship of publications in that field. Experience in mentoring or supervising other biostatisticians. Experience working with statistical theory and methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in designing and analyzing clinical trials including sample size considerations. Experience working with regulatory requirements for clinical trials (e.g., IRB, FDA, EMA). Experience in modern clinical trial design, such as Bayesian Adaptive Clinical trial design or established expertise in statistical methods such as structural equation modeling, causal data analysis. Experience in serving in protocol review committee and/or data safety monitoring committee.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Lead Biostatistician will be a research faculty (non-tenure track) in the Department of Medicine. The Lead Biostatistician will oversee the design, implementation, and interpretation of statistical analyses for research and clinical trials. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, including M.D. faculty, medical student and post-doctoral trainees, clinicians, and data analysts, to ensure that statistical methodologies are applied accurately and effectively. The Lead Biostatistician will also mentor junior statisticians and provide strategic input into research planning and data analysis. They will be expected to contribute significantly to NIH grant proposals and have the experience and know-how to be named as a co-I or biostatistician on grant submissions. The ideal applicant will have strong communication and presentation skills.


Duties:

Statistical Analysis & Design:

  • Design and implement statistical analysis plans for clinical trials, research studies, and other projects.
  • Apply advanced statistical methods to analyze complex data sets and interpret results.
  • Develop and validate statistical models to support research objectives.

Project Planning and Management:

  • Lead the biostatistical efforts for NIH grant submissions and awarded project statistical analysis.
  • Lead and manage statistical projects from initiation through to completion.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure project goals are met.
  • Monitor project timelines and ensure the delivery of high-quality results.

Mentorship & Training:

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior statisticians and other team members.
  • Conduct training sessions on statistical methodologies and software tools as needed.

Collaboration & Communication:

  • Collaborate with researchers, clinicians, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and provide statistical guidance.
  • Present statistical findings and insights to non-statistical audiences in a clear and concise manner.
  • Review and provide feedback on statistical analysis plans and reports.

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure the accuracy and reliability of statistical analyses and data reporting.
  • Develop and maintain documentation related to statistical methods and processes.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in biostatistics and related fields.
