POSITION SUMMARY:
The responsibility of the Preschool Gymnastics Instructor is to provide the highest level of instruction to all preschool participants of the gymnastics program, ages 2 5. The preschool instructor will help refine childrens skills and help students succeed in gymnastics.
Operating within the policies, procedures, and practices of the Wilton Family YMCA, this position supports the work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
The Preschool Gymnastics Instructor is responsible for enforcing the operation rules and regulations with all members in accordance with the policies of the Department and Branch.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Teach a variety of classes in the preschool gymnastics department in a positive, safe, educational and fun environment. Observe, instruct and spot athletes as they perform on the various apparatus (this will include physical contact and lifting, especially with smaller children)
- Provide a safe, fun, secure setting for children to learn in.
- Provide continuous supervision at all times.
- Supervise and be actively involved with the class and warm up activities of children so as to maintain order and discipline.
- Keep attendance records for your classes.
- Develop and maintain open communication with all parents.
- Communicate to the Gymnastics Coordinator any problems, concerns or suggestions regarding children.
- Show enthusiasm when teaching children and treat all children fairly.
- Assist the Riverbrook Regional YMCA in positively marketing the facility and programs to YMCA members and community. (Read YMCA brochures & be very familiar with gymnastics classes/levels, handbooks, flyers, etc.)
- Be punctual. Arrive 15-20 minutes prior to class to set up & prepare for class.
- Keep an accurate inventory of supplies and equipment and notify the Gymnastics Coordinator when replacement or repair is necessary.
- Keep the gym, seating area and equipment clean at all times.
- Attend staff meetings and meet with the Gymnastics Coordinator as scheduled.
- Dress appropriately for gymnastics instruction duties (Including Y instruction shirt- will be supplied, black pants or shorts.)
- Maintain and project a positive attitude in the gymnastics area, outside of the organization and all other areas of the YMCA.
- Employees should be in assigned area at all times while clocked in. No cell phones or texting while clocked in. (Emergencies only) Fill out incident reports when needed and turn them in to the Gymnastics Coordinator.
- Greet all gymnasts and parents at door.
- Adheres to policies and procedures related to boundaries with youth, managing high-risk activities and supervising youth.
- Completes all required organizational trainings annually.
- Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements
- Job responsibilities include access to protected health information. The employee may access protected health information (PHI) only to the extent that it is necessary for job requirements. May only share PHI with those who have a need to know specific member/participant/employee information in order to complete job responsibilities related to the individuals participation, payment or company operations. Is expected to complete required HIPAA privacy training and maintain HIPAA compliance at all times.
- The Preschool Gymnastics Instructor has access to protected health information (PHI) of Y program participants. The Preschool Gymnastics Instructor may use and disclose PHI to workforce members for the purpose of treatment, payment and operations only.
- Actively participates in and upholds the YMCAs mission to be open and accessible to everyone, regardless of financial situation or special need. Contributes time to raise funds for this worthy and necessary endeavor by supporting the Ys Annual Giving and Capital Development campaigns.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working with young children.
- Working knowledge in at least one of the following areas: Gymnastics, Tumbling, Cheerleading and Dance is a plus but not required.
- Willingness to learn additional areas in the Gymnastics Department.
- Demonstrated ability to teach the development of skills and proper techniques on each apparatus.
- Ability to lift equipment and to spot children.
- Ability to motivate and effectively communicate with members, nonmembers, parents and participants.
- Be able to exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making.
- Requirements within 30 days of hire include:
- Completion of: CPR
- First Aid/AED
- Redwoods Mandatory Trainings
- HIPAA Compliance Trainings
- Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with athletes of all ages and parents.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
