Job Summary:
The Clothing Pantry Volunteer will assist in the day-to-day operations of our clothing pantry, providing essential clothing items to individuals and families in need. This role is vital to ensuring that our clients receive quality clothing in a dignified and respectful manner. Volunteers will help with sorting, organizing, and distributing clothing, as well as maintaining a welcoming and supportive environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sorting and Organizing Donations: Sort clothing donations by type, size, and condition. Ensure that all items are clean and in good condition before being made available to clients.
- Client Assistance: Help clients find appropriate clothing items by guiding them through the clothing pantry, offering suggestions, and ensuring they have a positive experience.
- Inventory Management: Keep track of inventory levels and notify the Clothing Pantry Coordinator when specific items are running low or need restocking.
- Display and Maintenance: Arrange clothing on racks and shelves in an organized and attractive manner. Ensure the clothing pantry is clean and well-maintained at all times.
- Donation Intake: Assist with receiving, sorting, and organizing incoming clothing donations from donors. Ensure proper documentation of donations if required.
- Adherence to Policies: Follow all organizational policies and procedures, including safety guidelines and confidentiality agreements.
- Customer Service: Provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere for all clients, treating everyone with dignity, respect, and compassion.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other volunteers and staff to ensure the smooth operation of the clothing pantry.
Qualifications:
- Commitment to Service: A genuine desire to help those in need and a compassionate approach to working with diverse populations.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to organize and manage inventory efficiently.
- Communication Skills: Good interpersonal and communication skills to interact with clients and other volunteers.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift and carry bags of clothing, stand for extended periods, and perform tasks that may require physical effort.
- Reliability: Consistent attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
- Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to changing needs and take on various tasks as required.
- Spanish proficiency desired but not required.
Training and Support:
Volunteers will receive an orientation and training session to familiarize them with the clothing pantry’s operations, policies, and safety procedures. Ongoing support will be provided by the Clothing Pantry Coordinator or designated staff members.
