Under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, the Home Health Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) provides rehabilitative services to patients in their homes. The PTA follows the treatment plan established by the Physical Therapist to improve mobility, relieve pain, and restore function. This role requires independent work in a home health setting while maintaining communication with the supervising therapist and healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement physical therapy treatment plans under the direction of a licensed Physical Therapist.
- Provide therapeutic exercises, gait training, balance activities, and functional mobility training in the patient’s home environment.
- Monitor patient progress, document responses to treatment, and report any changes in condition to the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Educate patients and caregivers on home exercises, safety techniques, and adaptive equipment use.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in accordance with state and agency requirements.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team, including nurses, occupational therapists, and speech therapists, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Adhere to professional standards, home health regulations, and company policies.
Qualifications:
- Licensure: Valid Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) license in the state of Florida.
- Education: Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
- Experience: Prior home health experience preferred but not required.
- Skills:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a home health caseload.
- Knowledge of Medicare and home health documentation requirements.
- Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred.
- Requirements:
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
- Ability to travel to patient homes within the assigned service area.
- Compliance with background checks and health screenings as required by state and agency policies.
Work Environment:
- Provides therapy services in a home health setting, requiring frequent travel.
- May involve exposure to varying home environments and conditions.
- Requires lifting, transferring, and assisting patients with mobility as needed.
