Summary:
The Director of Development is a member of The Rockwell Museum’s leadership team, providing strategic direction and coordination of the Museum’s fundraising initiatives. Responsible for conceptualizing, planning, and implementing the Development programs to attain the financial goals set by the Executive Director and Board of Trustees. This position is responsible for the overall management, planning, and success of the Museum’s fundraising efforts, including individual and planned giving, corporate, foundation and government giving, membership, annual appeals, fundraising events, and donor relations programs. Leads donor cultivation and stewardship efforts for the Museum and future campaigns with a focus on securing major and principal gifts. Works closely with the Museum’s Executive Director and leadership team to ensure that development strategies are aligned with the mission, vision, and values of The Rockwell. Leads and manages the day-to-day activities of Development operations and all aspects of advancement and fundraising efforts, including development policies, procedures, and new initiatives. Actively works with the Museum’s Board of Trustees and Development Committee to enhance the museum’s visibility, impact, and financial resources to sustain and grow the organization.
Development Program and Strategy:
· Create a comprehensive program of philanthropy and resource development for the Museum, raising defined annual goals for unrestricted and restricted contributed income.
· Collaborate with the Executive Director and Finance team to set fundraising goals for the Museum. Evaluate needs and opportunities, research, and execute new revenue initiatives.
· Establish and implement revenue and performance goals, objectives, action plans, and benchmarks for Development programs focused on growth through all areas of funding.
· Utilize data analytics to drive decision-making for the Development team and to inform the Executive Director, Development Committee, and Board of Trustees.
· Manage a portfolio of high-net-worth donors and prospects, developing and implementing tailored cultivations, solicitations, and stewardship plans.
Identify new revenue streams to increase unrestricted contributed income, contributed services and other in-kind donations.
· Evaluate progress toward goals and provide regular reporting to the Executive Director
· Work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to enhance development initiatives and fundraising appeals and campaigns.
· Manage and implement annual fundraising campaigns including annual appeal, donor recruitment drive, and other campaigns as needed.
· Direct sponsorship efforts for exhibitions, programs, and events. Identify appropriate sponsorship levels and location of donor/sponsor recognition both on-site and online; track and update recognition deliverables as needed.
· Oversee donor cultivation and serve as lead project manager of sponsorship and fundraising components of Rockwell Museum programs.
· Cultivate relationships with current and future Silver Dollar Society members. Conduct personal solicitations and brief the Executive Director to facilitate solicitations, where appropriate.
· Coordinate fundraising special events with the assistance of the Events and Program Manager.
· Serve as the staff lead and facilitator for the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees; create reports and dashboards for both internal and external stakeholders to evaluate efforts and evolve strategies.
· Track fundraising efforts, as well as donor and prospect communications using the Museum’s CRM database and generate reports as needed.
Staff Management:
· Supervise the Development department staff, including the Membership and Grants Manager and the Events and Programs Manager.
· Work collaboratively with the Events and Programs Manager to execute high-quality and high-impact donor recognition and fundraising events.
· Work collaboratively with the Membership and Grants Manager to increase the number of Museum members and grants.
· Actively support the Development team, providing mentoring and ensuring effective staff relations based on trust and teamwork.
· Review staff performance and goal setting on an annual basis and provide continuous feedback that guides and inspires the staff.
Budget & Finance:
· Consult with the Executive Director, Director of Finance and Operations on the annual budget and prepare the Development program budget.
· Monitor and update monthly, quarterly, and annual projections based on revenue.
General:
· Support and amplify the Museum’s commitment to justice, equity, diversity, accessibility, and inclusion.
· Work collaboratively with interdepartmental teams.
· Support emerging technologies, strategies, and best practices to ensure that the Museum is current and develops new programs accordingly.
· Identify and activate approaches to build a culture of philanthropy across all areas of the Museum and with external constituents.
Education and Experience:
· Bachelor’s degree required.
· Five to seven years’ experience with fundraising in non-profit organization(s) with a track record of managerial responsibility and fundraising success.
· Demonstrated track record of securing gifts through frontline fundraising.
· Possesses knowledge of legal and tax matters regarding charitable giving and fundraising; budget acumen with experience in developing budgets for Advancement.
· Possesses knowledge of ethical standards for fundraising of the American Alliance of Museums.
· Possesses a working knowledge of modern data management practices and techniques, including database information systems and analysis.
· Possesses knowledge of strategies and trends in global philanthropy.
· Demonstrated supervisory and management skills, along with the ability to work effectively and professionally with people at all levels, including external stakeholders.
