Flintridge Sacred Heart is a Catholic, Dominican, independent, college-preparatory, day and boarding high school whose mission is to educate young women for a life of faith, integrity and truth. We are seeking a full-time English teacher. Successful candidates must have a strong background in English literature and commensurate skill as a writing instructor. This role includes active participation in the school community and collaboration on interdisciplinary projects. The ideal candidate will be experienced in integrating technology into their teaching, and ready to consider emerging technologies to enhance learning and student engagement. All faculty are involved in co-curricular programs and should share in a commitment to a holistic approach to educating our young women.

Essential Job Functions:
- Teach 5 blocks of English.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning
- Provide students in the classroom with timely, ongoing, and meaningful feedback, including comments for each student at the end of grading periods
- Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use information to adjust strategies
- Exhibit excellent classroom management and leadership skills
- Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments in a timely fashion and update gradebook accordingly
- Participate in department, school, and parent meetings
- Communicating proactively and consistently with students and families regarding student growth and development
- Commitment to the mission of Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy
- Ability to create an environment in the classroom and in all areas of co-curricular responsibility that nurtures the development of faith, integrity, and truth
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to equitable and inclusive classroom practices
- Willingness to work collaboratively with the grade level counselors.
- Demonstrate skill in fostering a learner-centered classroom environment and challenge students to apply knowledge to real-life problems
- Be a reflective educator who models intellectual curiosity
- Actively participate in the school’s culture of inquiry and seek out opportunities for professional development to enhance content knowledge and pedagogical skill
- Other duties deemed necessary by the Principal, Assistant Principal, and Department Chair
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in English or other relevant areas. Master’s degree preferred
- 3 years of high school teaching experience is preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of instructional strategies relating to, and for, the writing process
- Experience with academic technology and/or an enthusiastic willingness to be trained to employ new tools
- Ability to effectively use a computer for content delivery and record keeping
- Proficiency in curriculum planning, instruction, and assessing student mastery of course standards
- Excellent organizational skills
- Current teaching certification preferred

Wage Range
The rate of pay offered to the selected candidate is based on internal pay policy and budget. New hires are commonly paid at the minimum of the wage range or within the lower part of the range. We consider a number of factors when making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience, training and other department needs.
