What are the responsibilities and job description for the DSP (Direct Support Professional) / Caregiver position at The Romo Home for Special Needs?
Hi! We are currrently looking to bring on Direct Care Workers onto our team that would be willing to work shorter 3-4 hour shifts in the early morning such as 7-10am (Weekdays and Weekends) or evenings 4-8pm (Weekends). We are flexible with scheduling and are even willing to bring on staff looking for just one shift a week.
DSP Responsibilities: The Direct Support Professional is the primary caretaker of individuals within the home and is responsible for monitoring and taking appropriate care of the individuals we serve. This position requires a basic knowledge of the medical conditions and deeper knowledge of developmental disabilities that residents may possess. Facility personnel shall be expected to, at all times, provide services necessary to meet individual client needs and documented Individual Program Plan goals. If issues do arise the Direct Support Professional will be responsible for informing the Facility Administrator as required.
Listed Responsibilities include:
- Assistance with all/most activities of daily living that include personal care, feeding, grooming, hygiene, dressing, toileting and incontinence
- Assistance with the administration of medications
- Assistance on social and recreational outings when acclimating residents to the community
- Promote independence, dignity, quality of life, and fulfillment
- Monitor the physical environment to secure the safety of the individuals
- Housekeeping; Take part in providing a clean space and making sure sufficient nutritional needs are met for the residents, when not conflicting with direct support tasks or the care for the individuals we serve
DSP Requirements: The position of the Direct Support Professional is the primary care provider for the facility. This person will be available to provide services under the direction and observation of the Administrator or Facility Assistant Manager. In order to do so, the Direct Support Professional must possess at least the following qualities:
- A minimum of eighteen years of age
- A minimum of six months to a year of experience working with individuals who have developmental disabilities or medical conditions
- Capability to effectively provide care to individuals with developmental disabilities
- Capability to effectively communicate with adults who have a developmental disability
- Capability of passing a background review as conducted through the State of California and department of social services
- Capability of providing Fingerprint LiveScan for background review
- Possession of a valid First Aid Certification - Romo Home will pay for online certification if not currently held
- Possession of a valid CPR Certification - Romo Home will pay for online certification if not currently held
- Recent TB Test and Health Physical - Romo Home will provide you with resources to complete this, if not completed
- Fully vaccinated for Covid-19, as DSP will be working with individuals in a long term care facility
- Possession of a valid California Driver’s License
- Female preferred for the care of female client
Time and Hours: Minimal weekday, and weekend hours and on-the-job training at first, depending upon performance, availability, and job demand, could lead to more shifts.
