Job summary

The Clinical Research Fellow in Haemato-Oncology Cellular Therapy at The Royal Marsden will undertake a One-year fixed-term role focused on both clinical and translational research in cellular therapies for haematological malignancies. Based across the Chelsea and Sutton sites, the fellow will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to support clinical trials, manage patient care, and contribute to cutting-edge research, including CAR-T therapies. They will also pursue an MD (Res) degree through the Institute of Cancer Research, with opportunities for publication, presentation at conferences, and hands-on experience in trial management, data analysis, and regulatory processes.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Research Fellow will engage in a combination of clinical and translational research within the Haemato-Oncology Unit, focusing on cellular therapies for haematological malignancies. The fellow will undertake an MD (Res) degree in cellular therapy in partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research, develop expertise in managing patients undergoing cellular therapy, and gain hands-on experience with CAR-T therapies and other advanced treatments.

Job responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the Clinical Research Fellow include conducting a translational research project on cellular therapy in haematological malignancies, supporting the management of clinical trials, and providing care for patients undergoing CAR-T and other cellular therapies. The fellow will be involved in trial design, data collection, and statistical analysis, as well as working with trial teams to ensure regulatory compliance. Clinical duties include patient assessment, treatment consent, and managing treatment-related toxicities. Additionally, the role includes contributing to audits, quality improvement initiatives, and providing training for junior doctors on cellular therapy.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council at time of application
  • MRCP and FRCPath Part 1 (Haematology) / Equivalent Qualification

Desirable

  • FRCPath (Haematology) Part 2
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Completion of Core Medical Training or equivalent
  • Completed at least 2 years of specialist training in Haematology or Oncology including participation in on call rota.
  • Ability to teach clinical skills
  • Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in HSCT
  • Clinical Trials Experience
  • Presentations / Publications
  • Training in teaching clinical skills
  • Skills, abilities and knowledge
