We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work as a PA to the Divisional Nurse Director, Chief Pharmacist and Divisional Medical Director within Clinical Services. This exciting role encompasses a wide range of PA and general secretarial duties including typing general correspondence, diary management, minute-taking and assisting the PA to the Divisional Director / Office Manager in ensuring the smooth day to day running of the management offices. In return you will be working at a leading Cancer Centre which prides itself on clinical excellence. Working in a friendly, but busy and demanding multi-disciplinary setting, you will need to be highly organised and able to work collaboratively with people at different levels. A minimum of two years general secretarial or PA experience is required for the post.
Main duties of the job
The role of the Medical PA is key to the efficient management of the consultant firm. Patient access to healthcare professionals and subsequent treatment planning in the specialist hospital setting relies upon well-co-ordinated organisational and administrative support. The role of the Medical PA has been introduced at the Trust to strengthen the secretarial service, and this job description outlines the responsibilities that the post is likely to encompass. However, a number of the posts differ in their emphasis depending upon the size of the consultant’s clinical practice and administrative team, and whether he / she also has an Administrative PA and / or Medical Secretary(S).
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To provide reciprocal cover in the absence of Medical P.A. and Medical Secretary colleagues.
- To participate in training courses as required by Health & Safety Regulations and Trust Policy, and to undertake preliminary.
- To participate in any training and personal development as identified via the appraisal process with the Divisional Secretarial Manager, in his / her capacity as line manager for staff working at Medical P.A. level.
- To demonstrate a commitment to the delivery of a high-quality service to patients and other service users, and to assist in diffusing informal patient complaints.
- To supervise the work of Medical Secretaries, depending upon local secretarial arrangements. This will include the undertaking of performance appraisals and objective setting for staff, and involvement in the recruitment process as required.
- To work in other departments during times of extreme staff shortage or increased workload to ensure that the Trust provides a continued service to its patients.

Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.
The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
