General Manager, Private Equine and Shooting Club

The Board of Directors of the Saddle and Sirloin Club of Kansas City is looking for an exceptional person to become the club’s General Manager to lead our exclusive, private equine and shooting club that sits on 320 beautiful acres within the city limits of Kansas City, Missouri. The successful candidate will have proven and successful business, financial and people leadership experience with unwavering integrity, excellent communication skills and who has a passion for providing exceptional customer / member service.

Club Mission & Member Goals :

The mission of the Saddle and Sirloin Club is to be a private equine club that promotes equestrian sports across all disciplines while providing unique social and sporting opportunities, fostering fellowship among its members, and honoring the Club’s tradition of supporting the American Royal.

All of our members share a set of common goals :

  • Provide a club where people can enjoy each other’s company in a relaxed, family friendly atmosphere.
  • Promote equine sports through all disciplines of horseback riding, educational equine clinics, events and competitions.
  • Promote shooting sports through a premier facility offering clinics, leagues and competitions.
  • Encourage fellowship among members through dining, social events and outdoor activities.

Job Description :

As the General Manager (GM), the successful candidate will oversee all aspects of our club and be responsible for ensuring the highest level of service and satisfaction for our members, providing exceptional people leadership for all employees and creating a positive atmosphere championing all things related to the care and love of horses and shooting sports. The successful leader will also drive fiscal responsibility and operational efficiency within the club operations to support the long-term viability and success of the club. This position will have several direct reports including the Equine Director, Food and Beverage Director, Head Chef, Facilities and Maintenance Director, Business / Office Manager and Communications Lead. This position requires a strong and successful background in business and financial administration and a proven ability to lead multiple different leaders of our various areas within the club.

Responsibilities :

Financial Management :

  • Develop and manage budgets for club operations, equine, food and beverage, staffing, and facility maintenance in partnership with the various leaders across the club.
  • Manage existing revenue generators, like the cell tower contract(s), and Identify opportunities for additional revenue generation through memberships, events, and other programs.
  • Monitor expenses, revenue, and membership dues; manage insurance-related needs; and implement cost-saving measures where appropriate.
  • Analyze financial reports and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to increase revenue and reduce expenses and share with Board.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers to secure favorable terms and pricing.
  • Operational Oversight :

  • Manage all day-to-day operations of the club, including business administration, financial / budgeting, staffing, technology and safety. The Board has all final decision-making authority on any significant action, change or performance management issue of selected leadership roles.
  • Ensure the smooth functioning of all departments and lead team-oriented partnering across the various elements of the club, including the marketing, planning and ensuring high quality execution of special events and social events.
  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures to enhance efficiency and safety.
  • Member Relations :

  • Recruitment, introduction to the club offerings, tours and orientation of new club members.
  • Foster positive relationships with club members by being visible and available to members to answer questions, support fellowship, provide service and address any concerns or requests in a timely and professional manner while treating all members with respect and professionalism.
  • Collaborate with club committees to plan and execute events, promotions, and special offerings that enhance the member experience.
  • Act as a liaison between club management and the membership to communicate important updates, policies, and initiatives.
  • Equine Operations and Management :

  • The heart and soul of Saddle and Sirloin are members and horses. We are excited to share that we have exceptional equine leadership and staff in place today that is empowered regarding all things equine. A wide variety of English and Western riding disciplines are represented and a diverse variety of riders from youth to adults and novice riders to world champions.
  • Facilities Maintenance :

  • Oversee the maintenance, upkeep and development of club property and facilities.
  • Coordinate repairs and improvements as needed to ensure a safe and attractive environment for members and horses.
  • Food and Beverage Management :

  • Partner with the Chef to develop and implement menus that reflect seasonal offerings, member preferences, and culinary trends.
  • Oversee Food and Beverage Director who manages inventory, purchasing, and cost control measures to optimize profitability while maintaining quality.
  • Oversee kitchen and dining room operations to ensure efficient service and adherence to food safety standards.
  • Continuously monitor and assess member feedback to make improvements and adjustments
  • Staff Leadership and Development :

  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment that promotes teamwork and professionalism.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise club staff, providing guidance and support to foster a positive work environment and to deliver exceptional service and uphold the club’s standards.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Governance Structure :

    The General Manager will report directly to the President of the Board of Directors and will work in partnership and take guidance from the full Board of Directors, committee chairs, et al. The General Manager will have several key direct reports including, but not necessarily limited to, the Equine Director, Head Chef, Food and Beverage Director, Facilities / Grounds Director, Business / Office Manager, Communications and Marketing Manager, and shooting sports staff. The hiring, termination and / or any performance-related actions of selected leadership roles (e.g. Director level roles) must be approved by the President of the Board in advance of any action or communication to the staff member.

    Basic Qualifications :

  • Strong financial and business acumen and proven experience resulting in the successful execution of financial management, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
  • Proven successful people leadership skills with the ability to manage a diverse team and multiple departments with the ability to motivate, inspire and successfully partner with all staff.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer / member service-oriented approach
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by the nature of the club operations, events and activities.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience leading a similar organization in a similar role (i.e. : private club management)
  • Background in equine, livestock and / or agriculture environments and / or industry
  • Experience working in food and beverage
  • Experience with facility and maintenance management
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and best practices in the food and beverage / hospitality industry.
