Our paid time off accruals for annual and sick leave are as followed: 0-3 years of service = 2 hours of annual & sick per 40 hours worked; 3-9 years of service = 3 hours of annual & sick per 40 hours worked; 10 years or more of service = 4 hours of annual & sick per 40 hours worked. Plus you get 16 hours of personal time per calendar year (prorated based on your start date, resets every Jan.1). We also have Bereavement, Longevity, Fitness, and maternity/paternity leave.

Position Summary:

Duties include basic outreach work for Maternal Child Health (MCH) and family support services. Provide and implement programs geared toward health promotion for the Tribal community. This is a five year grant position for the life of the grant.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a support for registered patients from preconception through the childbearing year and infant children for birth through 18 years.
  • Recruit mothers, fathers, and other caregivers to participate in the Tribal Home visiting Program, family-friendly community events, and other relevant Maternal Child Health Services.
  • Maintain promotional materials, updating information as necessary, distributing to community locations and developing a social media presence to keep families informed of events/services.
  • Visit families in their homes, at the public health office, and alternative location or by phone/video chat and facilitate educational sessions using a comprehensive strength-based parenting curriculum.
  • Provide social support and connect participants to other relevant community resources.
  • Maintain data forms and tracking logs to document client contact and activities; meet department expectations for providing documentation in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Make arrangements for community events such as finding speakers and coordinating logistics.
  • Provide wellness and safety education for tribal youth in collaboration with Sasiwaans, SCA and SCTC.
  • Represent Maternal Child Health Services during community meetings, presentations, and networking opportunities for community partners and local service providers.
  • Travel to other sites for training, meetings and other duties as needed, including quarterly ITC meetings and annual Home Visiting conference.
  • Assist the Healthy Start/MCH Nurse with other organization activities as needed.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:

  • Direct contact with clients on home visits, various programs and events. Clients regarding scheduling their appointments. All Nimkee staff in regards to follow up care and case management for clients. Maternal Child / Healthy Start staff regarding referrals. All Public Health staff for various programs and projects.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of work, school or volunteer experience beyond high school required.
  • Ability to communicate and interact in a sensitive and respectful way in the local tribal community.
  • Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Certification as CDA (Child Development Associate) or other Early Childhood credentials.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a health or social services field. Certified to facilitate the Family Spirit curriculum through John Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health.

License, Certification, or Special Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain HIPAA Certification, Blood Borne Pathogens Certifications, CPR, BLS or approved alternate certification and Safety Training within thirty days of hire.
  • Must have a valid State of Michigan Driver’s License with the proper designation required for the vehicle utilized to perform the job duties; must be able to obtain and maintain a Tribal Driver’s License and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier.
  • Native American preference shall apply to all positions.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer equipment.
  • Required to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally walk and stand and reach with arms and hands.
  • Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment:

  • Normal office environment.
  • Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
  • Some community events may be outdoors.
  • Home visiting.
