Lower Elementary Teacher

The Saklan School is a small, progressive, independent, non-profit school accredited by WASC and CAIS. Saklan serves grades preschool through eighth grade, with one class per grade level. Our mission is to challenge students to think creatively, act compassionately, and live courageously. Our community centers the mission in all that we do, with our goal to produce well-rounded, confident, self-aware, critical thinkers. Students at Saklan learn to collaborate with others, advocate for themselves, and become aware of their strengths and challenges. Graduates move on to high school well-prepared, self-assured, and comfortable with themselves.

Our average class size is twelve in the Lower School (K-5). Our classroom teachers are solo practitioners who value the importance that connection and social-emotional well-being play in a student's growth. The Saklan School leverages authentic project-based learning and field experiences to engage learners and aspires to be the preeminent project-based school in the Bay Area. 

Overview of Position

The Saklan school is currently seeking a Lower Elementary teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. Candidates must be fluent in progressive educational theory and practices, be culturally competent, and have previous classroom teaching experience. We are seeking reliable, adaptable candidates with a nurturing and supportive approach to students.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Provide differentiated, varied classroom instruction using a multi-modal and project-based learning approaches
• Provide clear performance objectives that will be widely understood by students, parents, and administrators alike
• Facilitate the social, emotional, and academic development of students through the Responsive Classroom model
• Develop and implement a variety of student assessment methods that will consistently and continuously provide a basis for evaluating progress
• Coordinate with the Lower School Dean to deliver academic and social-emotional support for students
• Contribute to the community beyond the classroom
• Communicate with families and staff in a timely and professional manner

Qualifications and Skills

The successful candidate will have the following characteristics and skill set:

• At least two years of exemplary lower school classroom teaching experience and a valid teaching qualification
• Understanding of project-based learning
• A visible love and respect for children
• Experience in designing and teaching an integrated curriculum
• Experience in adapting curriculum to different learning styles
• A team player with colleagues and parents
• A good listener and communicator
• A good sense of humor
• Comfortable with the use of technology
