The Salty Seal Brewpub and Sports Bar is Located directly on Cannery Row in Monterey, California!

The Salty Seal Brewpub and Sports Bar is seeking a part-time server to join a fun team. We are a busy restaurant with a lot of foot traffic. Servers need to have at least 1yr of previous experience working in a busy full-service restaurant and be available to work every weekend and holidays. This is a weekend position.

JOB DESCRIPTION

As the primary point of contact for guest interactions, the Server is responsible for selling & serving food & beverages using their knowledge, hospitality, and service skills. Must be able to operate effectively as part of a team, communicate clearly, and ensure smooth service operations and quality service.

• Provide friendly service in greeting, seating, and waiting on all guests
• Present menus to guests and answer questions about menu items, beverages, and other restaurant functions and services. Try to upsell by making recommendations.
• Beer and cocktail knowledge is a PLUS!
• Monitor and observe guests dining experience to ensure guests are satisfied with the food and service and respond promptly and courteously to correct any problems.
• Take food and beverages orders from guests.
• Be able to explain to guests how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methods.
• Inform guests of menu changes and daily specials and make recommendations you genuinely feel your guests will enjoy.
• Enter orders into computers for transmittal to kitchen staff.
• Garnish and decorate dishes in preparation for serving.
• Serve food or beverages to guests
• Prepare hot and cold non-alcoholic drinks for guests
• Check guests’ identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages.
• Perform some food preparation duties such as preparing salads, appetizers, and cold dishes, portioning desserts, and brewing coffee.
• Remove dishes and glasses from tables and take them to kitchen for cleaning.
• Prepare checks on the POS that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes.
• Collect payments from guests.
• Thank guests for their visit and invite them to return.
• Clean tables after guests have finished dining.
• Roll silverware, set up food stations or set up dining areas to prepare for the next shift or for large parties.
• Stock service areas with supplies such as coffee, condiments, and tableware
• Perform cleaning duties, such as sweeping and mopping floors, vacuuming carpet, tidying up server station,
• Participate in teamwork and foster a harmonious working climate. If you see someone is struggling please lend a hand.
• Answer guest questions with regards to the property - Bear Flag Building has some history. It was featured in John Steinbeck's novel Cannery Row, which was published in 1945.

Our Requirements

• 1 years experience as a Server with fundamental food, beer, and wine knowledge preferred
• ServSafe Food Handler certificate and RBS certificate required by law - if you don't have them you can easily get them online and you will have 30 days after starting employment in which to do so.

Our Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 30lbs on occasion, bend, and raise your hands above your head
- Must be able to work standing and walking for extended periods of time
