What are the responsibilities and job description for the Divisional Director of Capital Campaigns position at The Salvation Army Central Territory?

Job Objective: The Capital Campaign Director will support the Executive Director of Development and Divisional Commander in coordinating all aspects of capital campaign management and reporting in The Salvation Army Kansas & Western Missouri Division. As an important part of the executive development team, the Capital Campaign Director will develop and execute a strategic plan with outside counsel and internal staff to diversify, strengthen and increase the capital funding base including developing new sources of funding for capital campaigns. The Capital Campaign Director is responsible for campaign strategy including establishing solicitation priorities, managing prospect lists, developing and executing targeted cultivation plans and solicitation strategies for a range of projects, preparing and providing support to staff, board members and volunteers for solicitation, and planning and managing cultivation and appreciation events. It is expected that 80% of time will be devoted to the campaigns in the Kansas City Metro, and 20% of time will be in resource to the division and other active feasibility studies and capital campaigns.
Essential Functions:
  • Consult with divisional leadership and corps officers on capital needs and planning
  • Ability to work with and influence leadership across multiple departments (Development, Property, Social Services, etc.)
  • Work with multiple departments at multiple levels simultaneously
  • Hold Salvation Army staff and volunteers accountable to timelines
  • Work with approved outside counsel on campaign strategy, timeline, and goals
  • Identify and cultivate steering committee members
  • Clearly communicate territorial and divisional decisions to corps officers and campaign level leadership
  • Manage visits and solicitations alone and with pertinent Salvation Army and volunteer leadership, including those to individuals, corporations and foundations
  • Advance various levels of feasibility studies and campaigns simultaneously
  • Manage grant processes for capital needs, to include writing and reporting
  • Manage high touch relationships between Salvation Army leadership and key prospects and donors through fundraising and recognition events
  • Responsible for acknowledgement of all campaign gifts and pledges, and preparation of pledge payment reminders and agreements
  • Manage campaign record keeping and progress toward goals with keen attention to detail
  • Prepare and present reports to corps, divisional and territorial leadership
  • Regularly report to the Divisional Finance Board
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or related field
Experience: Five years' successful experience in managing fundraising programs, including supervisory experience; direct experience with capital fundraising projects is preferred
Certifications/Licenses: None required

Physical Requirements: Physical Requirements: The position requires sitting; climbing and/or balancing; stooping, kneeling, bending, stretching, crouching and/or crawling; standing; walking, manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; use of vision; driving a vehicle; pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying 25 lbs.; traveling by airplane; both outdoor and indoor navigation of settings, and standing and/or walking up to 12 hours per day.

Communication Demands: The position requires: professionally communicating verbally with co-workers, other departments and program staff, clients, vendors, donors, volunteers, board members, philanthropic decision-makers, and officers; written communication; talking on the telephone; responding to written or verbal requests; training/giving verbal and written instructions; receiving verbal and written instructions; writing/composing written language; reading; visiting/working at other worksites and non-worksite locations; communication via the latest technologies.
Travel: Travel is expected, and more than 30% of time may be spent on the road, including evenings and weekends
Driving: Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment. Full-time position; may require some weekend and evening work
