What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Services Director position at The Salvation Army Central Territory?
Management
- Plans, schedules, instructs, supervises, monitors, and evaluates the work performance of the Food Services staff. Ensures compliance to TSA and Department policies and procedures. Provides support and encouragement to staff persons and provides development opportunities.
- Conducts regular staff meetings to communicate department concerns and other relevant matters to staff, and shares meeting notes with supervisor.
- Recruits, screens, interviews, and recommends for hire for department staff. Makes recommendations for terminations as necessary.
- Plans and analyzes menus for residents and program participants to ensure that USDA Meal Pattern and nutritional requirements are met.
- Plans menu options for residents with special dietary needs.
- Enforces federal and state regulations regarding nutritional standards, reports, and records.
- Ensures that established sanitation and safety standards are maintained.
- Prepares and maintains all records for required audits and reviews.
- Prepares, monitors, and administers the food services budget. Monitors and analyzes expenditures.
- Works with vendors to order food and food service supplies to meet program demands while adhering to budget restraints.
- Conducts regular inventory of food and food service supplies to ensure proper rotation of food inventory.
- Accepts donated food and food service supplies and utilizes as appropriate.
- Ensures that all meals are adequately prepared, cooked, and served as scheduled.
- Ensures all required bag lunches and breakfasts are prepared in a timely manner.
- Coordinates all kitchen equipment maintenance with the appropriate vendors and communicates these needs with the supervisor.
- Accepts and stores daily deliveries of food service items.
- Interacts with residents and staff in a friendly and professional manner.
Cooking
When circumstances require hands-on food prep and serving:
- Prepares and serves appropriate quantities of food in a timely manner, ensuring proper quality and quantity of food is prepared and served.
- Prepares facilities for the serving of food; ensures serving lines are properly stocked with adequate food, beverages, and supplies.
- Heats, portions, and serves food to clients according to established procedures.
- Maintains work areas and serving areas in a clean, sanitary, and safe condition; cleans counters and steam tables; washes and stores equipment, pots, pans, trays, and other food service items.
- Stores unused food and supplies to ensure compliance with health and sanitation standards; disposes of unusable leftovers and trash.
Education: Associates Degree in Restaurant Management, Food Service Management, or other closely related field.
Experience: Two years successful experience as a supervisor or manager in an institutional food service or comparable setting
-Or- Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities
Certifications: Serve Safe Certification; Restaurant Manager license preferred. Valid Wisconsin Driver's license with clearance to drive from The Salvation Army's insurance carrier.

Full-time employees scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week will be eligible for full benefits, including health, dental, vision and hearing benefits, basic and voluntary life benefits, holiday pay and paid time off, which is pro-rated based on their regularly scheduled work week.
Exempt Employees: Health, dental, vision, and hearing benefits, as well as basic and voluntary life benefits, will begin on the first day of the month following 30 days of employment.
Salary : $48,427 - $60,534
