Janitor / Food Pickup Driver / Vehicle Maintenance

The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm

Starting salary is $10-$12 per hour, depending on experience.

Summary/Primary Purpose: Perform routine cleaning of the building. Responsible for upkeep and maintenance of the building and vehicles. Drive truck/van for collection of donations for Pantry or other Corps programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Clean and sanitize bathrooms.
• Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors, empty/clean all wastebaskets.
• Pick-up bakery and food daily and other donations as needed/scheduled.
• Replace light bulbs.
• Strip, clean, buff, and apply sealer to floors.
• Wash windows inside and out.
• Perform routine maintenance of housekeeping equipment and keep janitorial closet in a tidy and clean manner.
• Move furniture or put together furniture on as needed basis.
• Remove snow and other debris from around the perimeter of the building.
• Tear down and take out boxes from the family services area.
• Ensure all windows and doors are locked when necessary.
• Light painting and other maintenance, as needed.
• Drive truck/van to pick up donations as scheduled.
• Distribute donations to proper departments as required.
• Oversee loading/unloading of truck ensuring the safety of personnel and volunteers.
• Interact with donors in a positive and friendly manner.
• Responsible for vehicle maintenance and safety.
• Sort, box, organize donations.
• Driving is an essential function of the role.
• All other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and experience in related field.

Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.

• Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to utilize pallet jack.
• Basic computer skills with ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web- based system.
• Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
• Strong independent judgement.
• Knowledge of cleaning supplies and their use.
• Knowledge of standard hand tools and equipment.
• Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business. Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Driver's License Class D minimum.

Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate vehicles and pallet jack, and other storage movement equipment. This position will required the ability to lift and/or move more than 75 pounds occasionally.

Working Conditions: The environment is where the clients are so it might be loud or busy at times. While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and or humid conditions, outdoor weather, and varying temperatures. The work environment is in vehicles and areas with near moving mechanical parts and loud noise.
