The Salvation Army Columbia Corps located in Columbia, Missouri, is looking for a Peer Support Specialist. The individual in this position must be willing to serve as a role model, mentor, advocate, and motivator to recovering individuals in order to help prevent relapse and promote long-term recovery. The Peer Support Specialist must demonstrate an ability to share personal recovery experiences and to develop authentic peer-to-peer relationships.
This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, with starting pay of $20.00 per hour.

Essential Functions
- Conduct outreach to Harbor House Residents and community substance use disorder support agencies to offer Christ Centered 12 step program meetings, resources, and Peer Counseling.
- Conduct initial screening to determine client appropriateness for services. If client is not appropriate provide a warm transfer and or referral to appropriate services.
- Provide recovery education to service recipients for every phase of the recovery journey from pre-recovery engagement, recovery initiation, recovery stabilization, and sustained recovery maintenance.
- Assist recovering persons to identify their personal interests, goals, strengths and weaknesses regarding recovery.
- Assist / coach recovering persons develop their own plan for advancing their recovery; for "getting the life they want."
- Promote self-advocacy by assisting recovering persons to have their voices fully heard; their needs, goals and objectives established as the focal point of their rehabilitation.

Minimum Qualification s
High school / equivalent diploma and one year work experience or two year's work experience without diploma. Must have a Missouri Certified Peer Specialist or eligible to receive credential within 60 days. Must have or be willing to obtain the following : Must have or be willing to obtain a Class E license. Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimal supervision. Must think independently and demonstrate sound judgment. Must be supportive of The Salvation Army's mission and policies. The position requires a high level of confidentiality. Good communication skills as well as the ability to work with diverse and challenging personalities are essential.
Physical and Working Conditions
Must be capable of performing the above essential duties in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, etc. Must be willing to travel to hospitals, clinics, churches, homeless shelters and other locations to engage clients. Occasionally lifts 20 pounds and sometimes up to 40 pounds. Most work will be indoors in a temperature control environment; however, some outdoor work is required.
