Job Description:
As the Social Services Assistant you will assist the Social Services staff in the operation of the Social Services Department including Pathway of Hope, Community Services, Food Pantry, and Seasonal Programs. This position provides resources and support to individuals ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.
What You Will Do:
- Social Services record keeping and reports.
- Prepare, update, and maintain records and data entry. This may include invoices and claims.
- Refer potential POH clients to POH case manager and Corps Officer
- Perform initial intake for potential POH clients
- Assist in the planning and execution of events
- Schedule appointments for social service programs
- Assist in referrals for clients as needed
- Fulfill responsibilities of the seasonal angel tree assistant
- Assist with all aspects of the Angel Tree program, including, but not limited to the application and adoption processes, delivery of angel tags to businesses and churches, pick up angel bags, set up and tear down of event.
- Support the front desk reception as needed
- Fulfill responsibilities of coordinating the food pantry
- Manage inventory and ordering
- Organize food pickups through Dare to Care and other various food providers
- Manage client scheduling and documentation
- Maintain client case records. Maintain and update database files as necessary
- Oversee food pantry volunteers
- Oversee any needed food drives
- Other tasks as assigned by leadership
Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate degree preferred
Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.
Experience: Minimum of one year experience in social services and/or administration.
Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe from Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. Must complete Caseworker Certification Program within 30 days of employment. Must complete SIMS data entry and/or completion of data entry procedures within 60 days of employment. This may include training with SAHELP.
Skills/Abilities:
- Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele
- Good organizational skills required
- Able to problem solve, listen to concerns, and answer routine questions
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
- Provide guidance and promote spiritual dimension of Salvation Army social services programs, emphasizing the important of Christian influence and evangelism in all Salvation Army ministries, including delivery of social services in contemporary settings

Travel: Position may require occasional travel for training and/or pick-up and delivery of essential business items.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office and community center environment; may require occasional evening work (seasonal angel tree program).
