Scope Of Position
The Human Resources Manager will assist the HR Director and run the daily functions of the Human Resource (HR) department including hiring and interviewing staff, assisting with payroll, benefits, and leave, as well as enforcing company policies and practices. Assist with employee relations, litigation claims and people-related matters impacting the organization. This position will supervise the HR Generalist and/or any HR temporary hire.
Education And Qualifications
Physical Requirements: Speaking, sitting, bending, walking, pushing, pulling, standing, kneeling, stooping, reaching, handling, fingering, climbing, and balancing. Hearing and visual acuity must be within normal limits. Lifting and moving objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Education And Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, or 3-5 years related experience in the field required.
- Experience working with The Salvation Army and with a minimum of one year of supervisory experience, or any equivalent combination of experience or education that provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work. (Preferred)
- Must have some working knowledge of multi-state labor laws, workers’ compensation, health and welfare plans, salary administration and employee benefits.
- Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM- CP) or Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification. (Preferred)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to make independent decisions without prior approval.
- Able to present him/herself in a poised and professional manner.
- Able to operate effectively in ambiguous situations.
- Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Excellent organizational skills; detail oriented, accurate and precise.
- Knowledge of Salvation Army practices and organization is desirable.

- UKG/UltiPro experience preferable.

- Valid Alaska Driver’s License required.
- Assists the HR Director on matters of significance to the organization. Serves as HRD backup during HRD absence.
- Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training. This includes creating required local organizational training and carrying out training on pre-approved training materials such as anti-harassment training, etc.
- Advises managers and supervisors regarding appropriate resolution of employee relations issues.
- Assists in designing, interpreting, and implementing policies to ensure compliance with Salvation Army regulations and procedures, as well as labor law requirements.
- Analyzes and assesses data to make recommendations on business operations - including analysis on trends, best practices, incorporating regulatory changes, and employment law.
- Manages projects or major assignments related to the operations of the business.
- Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and create or modify competencies required for positions.
- Conducts or acquires background checks, references, and employee eligibility verifications.
- Creates and assists in implementing new hire orientation and employee recognition programs.
- Assists in the roll out of performance appraisal actions.
- Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs that included but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Manages employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring to complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff.
- Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
