This is a seasonal position (June 8, 2025-August 2, 2025).

The Health Services Manager is to oversee health and wellness of Army Lake Camp participants and to respond to any emergency. Supervise health and cleanliness standards

Orientation:

  • Open the Health Center and obtain necessary supplies after checking the current inventory.
  • Conduct Health and Safety orientation during staff orientation. Work with Camp Director in planning this orientation.
  • Prepare and supply all first aid kits and blood borne pathogen kits. Ensure proper and adequate placement throughout camp (vehicles, cabins, offices, kitchen, maintenance, activity areas, etc). Develop a list for the checking out of all kits, including incident report forms that the staff must use. The staff is responsible for reporting any treatment given when away from camp and for the usage of materials out of the kit. The Health Services staff should then replenish the kits promptly.
  • Prepare and distribute lockboxes for staff to keep medications over the summer.
  • Prepare and append standing orders with the support of local doctor. Must be confirmed in writing by doctor. Familiarize self with orders and follow throughout summer.
  • Get to know other staff members and their general areas of responsibility.
  • Become acquainted with the eco-system known as camp.

Camp

  • Participate in all regularly scheduled staff meetings.
  • Work with Camp Director regarding health policies and sanitary conditions.
  • Work with Camp Director on any problems that arise regarding the health of staff and campers.
  • Supervise and plan responsibilities for Health Services Assistants with Camp Director, according to skills and abilities.
  • Guide and participate in camper health screening on registration day.
  • For each camp session, distribute a confidential report to all necessary staff that lists the name of any camper whose medical problems may affect his/her performance during their time at camp (asthma, epilepsy, etc.) Each counselor should be advised on a camper's medical conditions that will affect the camper throughout the week.
  • Hold regular office hours and arrange for emergency coverage on a 24-hour basis. Keep main office notified of our location for emergencies. Some flexibility with work hours will be needed due to some special programming.
  • Distribute medications at meals and at appropriate times throughout day (as directed by prescribing physicians).
  • Maintain all health-related records, including daily log, medical forms, incident reports, insurance forms, and insurance records.
  • In the Health Center, keep a bound book to record the following minimal information: date, name of camper/staff, reason for visiting center, treatment, medication if any, and time the medication was given.
  • Keep medical records for insurance purposes and at the end of staff orientation week and at the end of each session, give information to Camp Director. NOTE: workman's comp forms will be filled out by the Camp Director and kept for 3 years.
  • Support camp staff as needed by recommending locations for additional medical treatment.
  • Notify families of campers in the case of head injury, seizure, fever, vomiting, or any need of further medical attention beyond the scope of health services staff at Army Lake Camp. The notification must be prompt, normally as soon as initial treatment is completed. The Health Services Manager or designee should initiate the call to the parents and permit the camper to talk to his/her parents if they are able or available.
  • Advise the Camp Director in all matters of health which the Health Services Manager is communicating to State Health Inspector.
  • Submit reports to Chesterfield Resources involving injury or accidents.
  • Submit Safe from Harm reports as necessary.
  • Be available for teaching/assisting program staff and campers with anything regarding health and health education.
  • Periodically observe all areas of camp for health and safety, reporting any deficiencies to Camp Director.
  • Maintain Health Center, medical equipment, and inventory. Submit work requests to Camp Director.
  • Maintain all first aid kits. Collect and restock all cabin first aid kits at the end of the season.
  • Works with supervisor to ensure Camp compliance with all relevant Federal, State, and local rules and regulations, as well as with the American Camping Association (ACA) regulations in non-program areas.
  • Keep living quarters neat and clean.

Education: Minimum one year of college preferred. Minimum age of 18.

Experience: 2 years experience in camp nursing or related medical field preferred.

Certifications: Must have (or obtain before campers arrive) one of the following:

  • Current physician licensed in Wisconsin
  • Registered Nurse licensed in Wisconsin
  • Physician Assistant licensed in Wisconsin
  • National athletic trainers association certified trainer
  • Emergency Medical services practitioner
  • American Red Cross responding to emergencies course or equivalent.
  • Wilderness First Aid Course
  • Or any equivalent certifications
    • Current (or obtain before campers arrive) American Red Cross or American Heart Association basic CPR and AED.
    • Must have taken (or obtain before campers arrive) Medication Administration Principles - Wisconsin department of public instruction online course.
    • Must have taken (or obtain before campers arrive) anaphylaxis training program
    • Valid Wisconsin Driver's license, with clearance to drive from The Salvation Army's insurance carrier.
