Position Summary
The Salvation Army Northwoods Camp in Finlayson, MN is doing the most good by providing summer camp opportunities to hundreds of youth from Salvation Army programs across Minnesota and North Dakota. The camp offers youth a safe, fun environment to develop physically, socially, and spiritually while participating in various activities including swimming, fishing, boating, archery, music, and arts and crafts. The camp also provides a welcoming environment for other Salvation Army retreats and programs throughout the year.
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing comprehensive groundskeeping of the 280-acre camp. The Maintenance Technician also provides basic preventative and corrective maintenance including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, vehicle, and building maintenance.
Temporary: April 2025 - September 2025
$18.00/hour, 40 hours/week

Essential Functions (approximate Time Spent)
All work performed within the scope of training and regulations.
- Maintain grounds including snow removal and the upkeep of the lawns, parking lots, trails, fencing, dock, and vegetation. (45%)
- Perform preventative, routine, and corrective maintenance, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, power equipment, a variety of vehicles, and emergency systems). (30%)
- Complete assigned maintenance work orders promptly. (15%)
- Assist with special events and projects including set-up, tear-down, and vehicle/boat operations. (5%)
- As directed, respond to after-hours emergency maintenance calls and assist with custodial duties. (5%)
- High school diploma/GED.
- One or more years of maintenance experience (e.g., carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing).
- Pass background checks, possess a valid driver’s license, and meet MVR requirements.
- Working knowledge and safe handling of equipment, chemicals, and materials regularly used in basic maintenance.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and engage in self-directed, independent work.
- Ability to use PC.
- Perform all physical aspects of the position, including being mobile, bending, lifting, twisting, kneeling, reaching, and climbing.
- Regularly lift 50 lbs. and occasionally lift to 100 lbs.
- Hours may occasionally include extended hours, after-hours, and weekends.
- Not eligible for a remote-friendly work environment.
- Must be able to communicate clearly in English.
