The Aquatics Lead is responsible for the safety of all patrons and the aquatics facility, supervise the lifeguard staff, and open and close the facility as required. The Aquatics Lead will also teach group water fitness, learn to swim and private classes.

Qualifications

- Lifeguard Instructor Certification
- Water Safety Instructor Certification
- Water Exercise Instructor Certification
- Water Safety Instructor Trainer Certification, preferred
- Water Exercise Instructor Certification, preferred
- Have ability to instruct a classroom of adults, adolescent, and child learners consisting of individuals with varying experience, competency, and cultural backgrounds.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to perform tasks of a repetitive nature without diminished performance.
- Must be able to bend, squat, twist, and stand, as these movements are a regular requirement of this position.
- Must be physically able to give emergency care if a situation arises.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety of all guests.
- Attend all Aquatics meetings and trainings and service as lead in group training activities
- Must complete Keep SAfe training
- Serve as the supervisor of the Aquatic Center in the absence of the Aquatics Manager.
- Recognize and respond effectively to all emergencies
- Coordinate all Emergency Action Plans and ensure they are followed
- Enforce all Aquatic Center policies, rules, and regulations
- Maintain all required certifications
- Perform thorough walkthrough of the Aquatic Center checking for hazards and safety concerns, entry control issues (secure doors), and secure diving equipment
- Check fanny packs and first aid kits each shift to ensure supplies are fully stocked and return to secure location at the end of each shift
- Create a positive experience for patrons through professional and courteous behavior. Attend to guest’s questions, concerns and comments.
- Maintain, report and accurately complete all incident and accident reports according procedure
- Open and close the facility as requested
- Ensure music levels are set appropriately
- Ensure all radios are turned off and properly charging at the end of each day
- Instruct groups/ individuals of adults and children in swimming and water safety.
- Be familiar with all schedules and any posted changes for the facility.
- Teach by the guidelines of the Red Cross.
- Teach only Red Cross Materials.
- Serve as the supervisor on deck for each scheduled shift
- Ensure lifeguard staff is present for shifts and if necessary coordinate with the Aquatics Manager to get coverage for open shifts
- Assist Aquatics Manager with new lifeguard personnel orientation to ensure each member is familiar with the policies, procedures and facility
- Monitor guard rotations to and from the Lifeguard chairs
- Monitor lifeguard performance and implement training strategies in conjunction with the Aquatics Manager.
- With the assistance of the Aquatics Managers, issue reprimands for inappropriate behavior and policy violations
- Responsible for scheduling all breaks
- Wear required uniform at all times while on duty
- Be on time for each shift and after breaks
- Represent The Salvation Army’s spiritual and social mission
- Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
