About this opportunity:
This position is responsible for performing routine cleaning, repairs and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and vehicles; performs routine grounds keeping work to ensure the beautification of the landscape; performs minor plumbing and carpentry repair work. Drives a Salvation Army vehicle in order to transport passengers to and from Salvation Army activities, and appointments; picks up and drops off donations for Red Kettle and Angel Tree programs. operates vehicle in compliance with established Salvation Army standards and state driving regulations; ensures the safety, security, and accountability of the vehicle and passengers at all times.
Key responsibilities:
Performs routine building maintenance activities; performs minor pluming repairs required by leaking faucets and clogged toilets; performs carpentry work required to repair dents and/or holes in walls and paints walls.
Performs preventative maintenance of Salvation Army vehicles; monitors and replenishes all fluid levels.
Maintains the grounds to include mowing grass, trimming hedges, blowing leaves, sweeping sidewalks, and collecting debris; maintains the beautification of the grounds.
Cleans and maintains interior buildings including restrooms, kitchen, dining area, floors, windows, walls, furniture, fixtures, and emptying trash and recycle bins.
Maintains cleaning inventory, placing orders for new products when needed.
Maintains organization of the outside drop off donation area.
Assembles and moves office furniture including chairs, desks, tables, bulletin boards, etc.
Drives truck to pick up materials and repair items needed for maintenance work.
Monitors lighting and changes light bulbs when needed.
Maintains all tools, supplies, parts, and equipment belonging to the Maintenance Department.
Monitors activities and visitors of building and grounds to ensure security.
Notifies Supervisor of unsafe conditions.
Maintains organization of the outside drop off donation area
Provides transportation for members to and from the Corps each Sunday.
Provides transportation for children to and from afternoon activities.
Provides transportation for Home League members to and from the Fellowship Hall.
Provides transportation for children to and from day camp and during day camp trips.
Provides transportation for groups for summer camp.
Picks-up and delivers miscellaneous items as needed.
Delivers/picks-up mail to/from the post office.
Drives carefully and observes/complies with all traffic signs and road/weather conditions to ensure the safety of passengers.
Parks vehicle in a safe and clearly marked parking space.
Locks vehicle doors when vehicle is not in use.
Fuels vehicle in accordance with state gasoline regulations and The Salvation Army standards.
Logs all mileage on standard forms; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
Arrives at destination according to schedule or telephones ahead when severe delays occur.
Maintains control of passenger activities by prohibiting unsafe or non-Christian behavior.
What we are looking for in you:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Two years’ experience performing maintenance work in a general maintenance environment
Two years’ experience operating an automotive vehicle.
Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Work requires driving a vehicle and working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to perform heavy lifting. Ability to perform strenuous, heavy work involving the lifting and carrying of heavy objects. Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing. Ability to drive a vehicle in heavy traffic and extended trips. Ability to spend the night away from home due to extended trips. Ability to maintain required licenses and certifications required of the position.
