Camp Music and Arts Instructor (Music Conservatory) - Camp Heart O' Hills

Location: Camp Heart O’ Hills, Welling, OK   Position Type: Temporary Full-Time   About this Opportunity:The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, is seeking a Camp Music Conservatory Music and Arts Instructor for the Arkansas and Oklahoma Conservatory of Music and Arts, located in Welling, OK.   This is a summer position at Camp Heart O’ Hills. The job summary outlines the essential functions and requirements but is not all-inclusive. Additional responsibilities and tasks may be assigned as needed.   The Music and Arts Instructor will teach or assist classes within their area of expertise, which may include brass band, percussion, guitar, praise band, dance, theater, piano, or visual arts. All students also participate in chorus. The instructor is responsible for fostering a safe, engaging learning environment to promote personal, artistic, and spiritual growth.   Key Responsibilities: Classroom Instruction and Private Lessons: Assist Studio Coordinators, Senior Music Instructors, and Conservatory Directors in teaching majors or minors within your discipline. Provide private lessons focusing on technique and repertoire, preparing students for solo performances during recital nights. Teach additional classes, such as music theory, and participate in chorus activities. Staff Responsibilities: Participate in staff meetings, Bible studies, worship services, night programs, and Evensong. Fulfill ministry functions such as presenting devotional material, praying with campers, and leading Christian songs. Plan and execute at least one night program as assigned. Instructional and Administrative Duties: Develop lesson plans, grade assignments, and monitor student progress. Prepare students for recitals and performances, ensuring their readiness. Inform the Conservatory Director of supply or equipment needs. Maintain Conservatory equipment and instruments and assist with moving and setup for rehearsals and performances. Student Supervision and Development: Ensure proper behavior, discipline, and safety among students. Promote student participation and provide role modeling for personal and artistic development. Uphold camp rules and regulations, ensuring punctuality and responsibility. Additional Responsibilities: Maintain an up-to-date incident report log and report issues to the Conservatory Director. Keep living quarters clean and prepared for inspection. Support camp programs and activities as directed by the Conservatory Director. What We Are Looking for in You: Knowledge of child and youth behavior and development principles. Ability to ensure student and staff safety. Strong planning, teaching, and supervisory skills. Effective communication and mentoring abilities. Knowledge of music education principles and group instruction. Six months of experience teaching in your artistic discipline preferred, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to perform physical activities such as climbing, bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity for teaching and activities. Normal range of hearing and vision to communicate and supervise. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours in a seven-day-a-week schedule.
