About this opportunity:
Under the general direction of the Area Commander, the Community Relations and Development Director leads the Development Department, which includes donor services, communications, marketing, public relations, fundraising (direct mail, digital, major gifts, etc.), grant writing, corporate partnerships, volunteer recruitment and management, special events, etc. The incumbent plans, develops, and implements new and existing strategies for resource development and collaborates with the Area Commander, program directors, and departmental staff ensuring programs are communicated effectively to encourage investment from the community. Serves as a liaison to the Advisory Board and Council for development and marketing activities. Selects, trains, and supervises all staff responsible for the daily operation of the department. There is an annual fundraising goal, which is established each year in collaboration with the Area Commander and the Divisional Development Director and approved by the Divisional Finance Board.
Key responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Area Commander and in consultation with the Divisional Development Director, execute and manage an annual development plan for various fundraising activities, including major gifts, corporate donations, grants, direct mail, digital fundraising, special events, campaigns, etc.; meet or surpass annual goals.
Develop relationships with local news stations and media outlets and arrange for timely coverage of Salvation Army special events, campaigns, etc. in print publications, broadcasts, and online media.
In collaboration with the Divisional Donor Services & Cultivation Manager, Divisional Communications Director, and marketing vendor, provide oversight to the direct mail and digital fundraising programs; ensure appeals and assets are consistent with programs and services; ensure appeals are mailed timely; ensure acknowledgment letters are up to date and accurate; participate in annual Direct Mail & Digital Roundtable and offer suggestions to Area Commander to make programs more effective and efficient.
Under the direction of the Area Commander and in consultation with the Divisional Communications Director, create, implement, and oversee marketing and communications plan and digital and social media strategy to raise awareness about the mission and work of the organization, enhance support of its programs and services, and advance the annual development plan; establish and achieve goals and objectives.
What we are looking for in you:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a concentration in business, public relations, communications, marketing, or related field; AND
Seven years progressively responsible experience in fund raising, donor management, marketing and vendor management; knowledge of Interchange with experience in sequel language, Sisense, Blackbaud products, EFT merchant accounts and donor, financial, lock box management products highly desirable.
Three years previous supervisory experience, experience in non-profit development office preferably with a 50l(c)(3) tax exempt status organization; experience providing support to senior-level management; producing correspondence and analyzing and making recommendations to improve work systems and processes.
Valid Driver's License and must meet TSA MVR Requirements.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to understand and interpret the mission of The Salvation Army. Ability to communicate effectively with others; Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to work in an environment which may include stressful situations. Ability to speak before large groups; ability to perform interviews with media outlets. Ability to travel to various locations to participate in meetings. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Occasional, job will require travel to other locations such as local corporate offices or outdoor venues.
