Director of Development

Location: The Salvation Army – Jackson, MS Position Title: Director of Development Position Type: Salary Pay: $65,000- $70,000   About this opportunity: This position plans, develops, implements, administers, evaluates, and monitors an aggressive Direct Fund-Raising Program targeting the assigned area under the direction of the Officer(s) in Charge.       Responsibilities include: This position develops and secures funds to reach/surpass fund-raising goals through a variety of financial development vehicles including:  1) individual gifts and individual donor upgrading, 2) corporate gifts and sponsorships, 3) foundation support for specific programs and projects, 4) government grants, and 5) capital campaigns, and special events.  This position works directly and independently with local officers, their boards and committees to develop local promotional plans.  Plans and coordinates all public relations activities and ensures compliance with the designated budget. This position confers directly with Divisional Headquarters administration and boards as well as with Territorial Headquarters.   Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission and philosophy.    Knowledge of modern principles and practices of individual, corporate, foundation, grant-seeking, and special events fund raising.   Knowledge of and ability to interpret charitable solicitation laws, The Salvation Army policies, and local, state, and federal laws as they relate to fund raising and charitable solicitation.   Knowledge of donor records management and administration as well as data and trend analysis. Knowledge of the principles and practices of budgeting and financial management.    Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective communications and public relations.     Ability to produce the highest possible monetary return for The Salvation Army through an effective and efficient Financial Development Program.   Ability to design, plan, administer and monitor the day-to-day operations of a Regional Financial Development Program and to ensure compliance to the mission of The Salvation Army.    Ability to lead, motivate, encourage, and inspire volunteers working on financial development activities. Ability to work effectively with Divisional administration, field staff, legal counsel, and office staff. Ability to conduct the affairs of this office responsibly, efficiently, and economically, and to motivate the staff to do likewise.         What we are looking for in you: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Marketing.  or a related field with specialized training in Fund Raising Management highly desirable, and three to five years of progressively responsible experience in fund raising and fund-raising management, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.   Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to travel throughout the assigned territory on a frequent basis to work with divisional and local unit financial development staff, their donors, and professionals of their communities. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to understand and manage budgets and financial matters.
