About this opportunity:
The Lead Lifeguard will be responsible for maintaining the safety and cleanliness of the aquatic facility and providing general oversight of the aquatics area in the absence of the Aquatics Manager. They will provide training and general oversight over the other lifeguards on duty.
Key responsibilities:
Develops and maintains a close working relationship with the Aquatics Manager, Aquatics Coordinator, internal and external clients in order to create and maintain a safe and positive experience.
Assist as needed the Aquatics Manger with the operation and maintenance of the pool and equipment; conduct daily walk-through of facility to ensure appropriate appearance; document needed repairs and maintenance; maintain accurate inventory of first-aid, chemical, operating and program supplies; coordinator the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies.
Safeguards and regulates conduct of pool patrons, enforces pool policies, rules, and regulations, Rescues patrons and performs appropriate follow-up procedures, including the proper use of equipment in the performance of first aid.
Test water quality in pool and maintains appropriate records.
Assists in the proper maintenance and sanitary upkeep of the pool, pool area, and locker rooms.
Participates in the preparation of daily records.
Provides written reports on all accidents, Maintains proper updated safety requirements.
Attends in-service training and instructs certain skills to staff.
Conducts patron swimming test to assess ability to swim independently and unattended.
Provides excellent internal and external customer service. Create a positive experience for patrons through professional and courteous behavior.
Handles customer conflict and complaints professionally, as necessary.
Performs general housekeeping duties in and around the natatorium, i.e. hosing, vacuuming, picking up litter, etc.
Performs work safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures. Operates equipment safely and reports any unsafe work conditions or practice to supervisor.
Provides guidance to less experienced Lifeguards.
Assists Aquatics Coordinator in daily aquatic managerial duties.
Assists Aquatics Coordinator with the proper chemical balances in both pool and whirlpool as directed making adjustments to these balances as directed.
Handles the mechanical/pump room or chemical problems as necessary.
Have a good understanding of current best practices in regard to the aquatics programs and keep current with new changes that will affect programs.
Interact professionally in all contact with the public and Salvation Army Officers and staff
Abide by Salvation Army Policies and Procedures and have an acceptance of Salvation Army philosophy and mission.
What we are looking for in you:
Must have two (2) years of lifeguarding experience.
Possess a valid American Red Cross Life Guarding Certificate and American Red Cross First Aid Certificate
Certified in American Red Cross Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), for the Professional Rescuer or become certified within 30 days of employment, OR
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements; Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis; Must be able to perform tasks of a repetitive nature without diminished performance; Must be able to bend, squat, twist, and stand, as these movements are a regular requirement of this position. Must be physically able to give emergency care if a situation arises. Ability to read, write and communicate the English Language.
