About this seasonal opportunity:
Under the direction of the Camp Manager, you will assist in the maintenance and repair of the camp's buildings, grounds, equipment, and other facilities consistent with the mission and established policies and procedures of the camp.
Key responsibilities include reporting to the Camp Manager for assignments and work schedule, meeting with the Program Director daily to ensure assigned meeting spaces are set up and cleaned properly, ensuring that Camp Maintenance has the necessary materials to continue work until completed, training and monitoring the activity of Camp Maintenance, keeping the Camp Maintenance crew on task, and advising the Camp Manager of completed duties and other needed work assignments. You will also report any problems with Camp Maintenance to the Camp Manager and maintain the camp grounds by operating necessary grounds care equipment, such as a mower, tractor, chain saws, etc., in a safe and efficient manner. Additionally, you will be aware of and make necessary changes to hazards found on the camp grounds, ensure all equipment remains in proper working order and compliance with standard operating procedures and safety standards, lock and secure all equipment when not in use, perform janitorial and general maintenance duties in buildings and areas designated, dispose of trash and waste from the camp facilities and ground daily, and perform all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines, including local, state, and federal guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards. You will also assist with the setup, clean, and reset of meeting areas and rooms throughout the day as needed, assist with camper luggage on opening and closing days, operate a Salvation Army vehicle to pick-up and/or deliver materials, take water to water areas as assigned, participate enthusiastically as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions, sit with camper tables during meals and serve as a table monitor when needed, keep personal living quarters neat, clean, and ready for inspection, and be available to participate and assist with camp programs and activities as directed by the Camp Director.
We are looking for someone with two years of experience in a facility and site maintenance, construction, or grounds keeping business, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. A valid and current driver's license is also required.
Some physical requirements of the Camp Maintenance Supervisor position may include endurance, climbing, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate maintenance equipment and activities are required. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds is also necessary. Working irregular hours and being willing to live in a camp setting are also essential. Daily exposure to the sun and heat, and varying environmental conditions are expected.
