The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Social Services Program Manager for the Hickory Corps Hickory, located in Hickory, NC.
Job Summary : Responsible for the case management services offered to families through the Pathway of Hope (POH) program in the Transitional Housing Program. Manages and monitors assigned caseload of clients seeking social service assistance and / or participating in a life management program; supervises the day-to-day operations and staff providing social services and shelter services to homeless clients; provides social services offered by The Salvation Army; works with clients to develop goals and evaluates clients progress by conducting routine meetings with client and / or staff; serves as advocate for client in order to acquire services and skills that will enable them to move toward self-sufficiency.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities : Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work and social service case management as it relates to care of low income people and homeless and transitional shelter care. Knowledge of the principles and practices of crisis intervention. Knowledge of social service resources and agencies in the community Knowledge of family dynamics and issues of domestic violence and sexual abuse. Knowledge of the principles and practices of effective leadership and management of employees, programs, and finances. Skill in supervising work of social service and shelter staff as well as the ability to train staff in proper methods and procedures for performing work. Skill in interviewing clients to obtain pertinent information.
Education and Experience : Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or a related field; and Three (3) years performing progressively responsible social service case management work, preferably with homeless clients; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Licenses and Certification : Valid Driver's License.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions : Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.). Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Travel to multiple service sites may be required.
