Location: Buckhannon Service Unit – Buckhannon, WV
Position Title: Store Clerk & Sorting Room Worker
Position Type: Regular Part-time (with benefits 28hrs per week)
Pay Rate: $10.18/hr.
About this opportunity:
Candidate will operate & maintain a cash register, assist customers with selecting & purchasing store items as well as assist in receiving, processing, pricing & selling donated items.
Key Responsibilities:
Greets customers and informs them of the current sales as they enter the store.
Assists customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensures that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience.
Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assists customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information; may schedule and record donation pick-ups; returns voicemails promptly and periodically throughout the day.
Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register; collects monies, counts change, and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items.
Prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register printouts; prepares and delivers bank deposits in Salvation Army owned vehicle; ensures the security and accountability of all cash register funds and sales records in accordance with established operating procedures.
Prepares, processes, and maintains various sales records, tax forms, and social service vouchers; prepares routine sales reports as directed.
Maintains register area, sales floor & sorting areas by keeping neat and orderly floors, counters & display shelves. Removing empty hangers from clothing racks & ensuring merchandise & clothing are displayed neatly.
Receives, inspects, and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brac, etc. according to the category and condition.
Selects items suitable for store display and distributes same to appropriate area for further sorting and/or pricing, discards items in accordance with established procedures. Ensures that bric-a-brac items are wiped cleaned prior to placing on sales floor.
Tags items with specially coded tickets and/or prices; hangs clothes on hangers & places on racks; prepares non-suitable clothes for the bailer
Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination.
What we are looking for in you:
High school diploma or GED AND
experience working in a retail store environment preferred OR
any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Valid WV Driver's License for operating Salvation Army owned vehicles
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy materials, supplies and equipment frequently. Heavy mobility duties are usually performed by combinations of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching, or transporting merchandise on frequent change basis relieved by fewer periods of sitting.
