Position Type: Regular, Full-Time at 35 hours per week
Pay Range: $19.65 – $22.11 an Hour
About this opportunity:
Under the Marketing and Special Events Manager’s supervision, responsible for all aspects of developing, implementing and coordinating an effective volunteer program including recruiting, training and supervising volunteers. Seeks opportunities to promote The Salvation Army and its programs to the community. Assists with special events. Recruits, trains, coordinates and coordinates the work of volunteers ensuring ample staff to meet program needs; prepares records and reports regarding the same
Key responsibilities:
Determines the need for volunteer staff through Marketing and Special Events Manager and program or department heads. Recruits and coordinates the screening and selection of volunteer staff ensuring adequate staff is maintained to meet needs.
Plans, schedules and assigns work of volunteer staff; instructs volunteers in proper methods and procedures; checks and approves work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy and completeness; conducts written evaluations of volunteer performance every six (6) months.
Develops training manual and volunteer assignment job descriptions.
Responsible for identifying and recommending changes in assignment and termination of volunteer staff as needed.
Prepares and maintains up-to-date records on all volunteers; prepares annual report regarding the status of the volunteer program. When needed, performs criminal history background checks and fingerprint cards on volunteers working with children. Coordinates with Human Resources for the safe keeping of records.
Coordinates annual holiday food drives and other events including the Red Kettle Bell-Ringing program. Coordinates volunteer recruitment for Christmas and other events throughout the year to ensure sufficient number of trained volunteers are prepared.
Confers with the supervisor regarding the status and performance of the volunteer program; prepares records and reports regarding the same.
Plans and executes recognition of volunteers through on-going and special appreciation events.
Prepares public presentations of volunteer needs and opportunities for volunteer recruitment, speaking engagements, volunteer job fairs and community connections.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of volunteer recruitment methods and practices
Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
Ability to prepare accurate and complete records and reports
Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with volunteers
Ability to lead, motivate and evaluate the work of volunteers
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid state driver’s license
What we are looking for in you:
Two-year degree or college coursework, AND
One year experience recruiting people to perform work on a volunteer basis preferred, OR
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
