Job Title: Camp Director

FLSA Status: Full Time - exempt
Reports to: Divisional Youth Secretary

Schedule: Full Time; Exempt

Supervises: Camp Staff

Rate of Pay:$82,000 per year

Closing Date: 3/20/2025

Benefits: Standard; Full-Time, Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

Scope of Position/Essential Functions:

The Camp Director acts as the principal representative of The Salvation Army in managing and directing the operations of High Peak Camp. The Camp Director will always conduct himself/herself in a manner consistent with the mission of The Salvation Army. To the best of his/her ability, he/she will seek to further The Salvation Army's commitment to outdoor ministries. This position will adhere to the Camp Code of Conduct, support the Christian camping and ministry culture as well as uphold the mission, and practices of The Salvation Army and its doctrine.

Education and Work Experience:

The chosen applicant must have a BA degree in outdoor miniseries, or a high school diploma/equivalent paired with a minimum of five years' experience in outdoor ministries.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Ability to supervise and direct the full time staff for year-round camp operations. Recommend applicants for employment. Provide yearly performance evaluations.
  • Develop and implement approved crisis and risk management procedures.
  • Hold weekly staff meetings and periodic trainings with staff and full time volunteers.
  • Annually seek and analyze input from youth, families, and staff regarding the quality, safety, and enjoyment of the program.
  • Encourage the professional and spiritual growth of the staff.
  • Sufficient knowledge of maintenance and operations to ensure optimum care and usage of equipment and facilities.
  • Make necessary purchases of equipment and supplies under the authority of the Divisional Finance Council.
  • Ensure the quality of all food services provided year-round.
  • Develop and maintain programs as directed by the Divisional Youth Secretary.
  • In cooperation with the DYS and Summer Program Director, the Camp Director will oversee and evaluate all summer camping operations and staff, and will make recommendations at each summer's conclusion.
  • The Camp Director will work in cooperation with the DYS to develop a yearlong camp schedule.
  • In cooperation with the DYS, the Camp Director will oversee the financial management and fund development operations to allow for adequate funding and to meet long-term goals.
    • Develop and monitor budgets for the camp operations
    • Develop, design, and submit for approval long-term fund raising strategies for the camp facilities.
  • Design and implement a marketing plan to increase camper attendance and camp usage.
    • Utilizing the camp software system, prepare and analyze enrollment trends.
  • Manage property development and maintenance needs to ensure stewardship of current resources and identification of future needs
    • Develop a monthly maintenance and projects checklist to be sent to the DYS for review by the last Friday of each month.
  • In cooperation with the DYS, the Camp Director will be responsible to ensure all necessary training and certifications for both summer and year-round operations. These certifications will include, but are not limited to, first-aid, CPR, medication administration, challenge course certifications, food handling, life-guarding, etc...
  • Assist the DYS in any duties as requested in order to maintain a high level of efficiency with the operation of the camp ministry.
  • Other functions of this position include general housekeeping to assist in turning the camp over.
  • Remain in full compliance with all Salvation Army policies and procedures outlined within the employee handbook and as directed by authorized Salvation Army departments.
  • Possess or willing to aquire passenger endorsement for Camp bus.
  • A general knowledge of the operation of camp heavy equipment.
  • Must be minimally 21 years of age and possessing a valid in-state Driver's License

Software-related skills: Microsoft Word and Excel required, Lotus Notes, Outlook, Working knowledge of integrated database applications and ability to use new software programs

with basic training.

Physical Requirements: Ability to maneuver and Ability to remain in a stationary position, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead. Ability to operate telephone. Ability to lift to 25 pounds, Ability to access and produce information from a computer, Ability to understand written information.
