The Salvation Army's Camp Allegheny is hiring a Behavioral Specialist for the 2025 Summer Camp Season during the months of June - August.
The position is seasonal/temporary.
Summary
As a Behavioral Specialist at The Salvation Army, you will play a vital role in supporting children and families by implementing effective behavioral strategies and interventions. The Salvation Army will utilize a Licensed Behavior Specialist (LBS) to develop a camp-wide positive behavior support plan to describe an optimal socioemotional functioning displayed by every camper and the behavioral support needed to achieve such outcomes. The Licensed Behavior Specialist will set observable and measurable goals for campers to create clear guideposts for success. The LBS will train camp staff on the positive behavior support plan, common problematic behaviors, and appropriate interventions that focus on positive behaviors while minimizing problematic behaviors. This position is crucial in fostering a positive environment that promotes personal growth and development.
Responsibilities:
- Support the goals of Salvation Army camping as delineated in the camp staff application.
- Serve as a member of the camp leadership team, attending meetings as scheduled by the Camp Directors, and assist in opening and closing day as assigned.
- Accept guidance and supervision from and work closely with the Assistant Camp Director.
- Develop a camp-wide positive behavior support plan in partnership with Camp Directors using positive discipline strategies including individual behavior modification plans, group behavior modification plans, individual camper behavior contracts, and group behavior contracts to redirect camper behavior to an acceptable alternative.
- Set observable and measurable goals for campers to create clear guideposts for success.
- Train camp staff on the positive behavior support plan, common problematic behaviors, and appropriate interventions.
- Evaluate behaviors during camp and coach staff on appropriate interventions, focusing on positive behaviors and minimizing problematic behaviors.
- Serve as a behavioral resource person for the village leaders, counselors, and staff members.
- Provide one-on-one behavior support to children exhibiting problematic or severe behaviors, including crisis intervention and developing behavior modification plans and contracts.
- Keep accurate records of camper behavior and incidents.
- Communicate with parents/guardians as needed.
- Regularly confer with Camp Directors to apprise of recent camper referrals, interventions, and the strategies employed to facilitate behavioral change.
- Complete, submit, and record all reports as necessary related to CYS and KeepSafe.
- Relate God to the experiences of staff and campers.
- Serve as a role model to campers and other staff members by complying with all camp personnel policies and by modeling a lifestyle according to Biblical imperatives for Godly living.
- Report to Assistant Camp Director for other duties.
Requirements:
- Must be a Christian familiar with the principles of Christian living found in the New Testament and seeking God’s guidance for help in his/her daily walk.
- Understanding of the goals and objectives of Camp Allegheny and its program.
- Must hold PA Behavior Specialist Licensure.
- Current CPR and First Aid Certifications preferred.
