The Assistant Camp Director & Youth Department Program Specialist will assist the Divisional Youth Secretaries in overseeing all operational aspects of Camp Sebago. This role includes working closely with youth, program, and corps leadership across Northern New England to plan, develop, and implement divisional youth programs year-round. The position requires on-site residency at Camp Sebago from June through August.

CAMP SEBAGO

  • Develop and implement a summer camp program and curriculum that caters to the needs and interests of the camp’s target populations, ensuring delivery in a safe, efficient, and high-quality manner.
  • Recruit camp staff through local, international, and online channels, including visits to colleges and universities, hiring events, and conferences. Conduct interviews and collaborate with the Divisional Youth Secretary and HR for staff hiring decisions.
  • Monitor enrollment trends and collect annual feedback from youth, families, and staff regarding the camp program's quality. Communicate any suggested improvements to the Divisional Youth Secretary.
  • Develop and curate captivating content for social media platforms to highlight and promote the Camp Sebago experience; ensure that the Camp Sebago website information is consistently maintained and kept up to date.
  • Collaborate with the Human Resources department to coordinate and organize staff training, orientation, and development and to implement staff recruitment and retention strategies. Actively support and implement all aspects of hiring and onboarding process.
  • Coordinate camper pre-registration for all corps and confirm camper slots and sessions each corps is attending during the summer.
  • Oversee CampMinder program, site updates, inquiries from the field, communication through mass emails to parents, and yearly set up of camper application and registration. Update staff application and paperwork through the CampMinder site annually.
  • Serve as a resource for all corps in the division by developing and distributing camper recruitment materials, such as brochures and posters, and conducting CampMinder training sessions through HR for officers and employees involved in camper registration.
  • Manage preparations for the camp's operating season, including ordering supplies, coordinating job assignments for pre-camp tasks, assigning counselors to cabins, and ensuring the camp is fully prepared and ready for the season.
  • Assist with the camp’s closure by relocating office equipment and supplies to Divisional Headquarters, preparing inventories, and ensuring that all program areas and supplies are properly secured for the winter.
  • Prepare, compile, and maintain up-to-date materials for the American Camping Association (ACA) reaccreditation process, ensuring that all camp programs, facilities, and equipment meet ACA standards and maintain accreditation.
  • Attend events as requested including, but not limited to the Divisional Youth Leaders Conference as required/requested the American Camping Conference.
  • Assist in creating and executing crisis and risk management procedures.


OTHER YOUTH DEPARTMENT RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a current listing of Young Adults throughout the Division, and Salvation Army (SA) students on college campuses both in and out of State; identify individuals with potential for deeper cultivation for Army service.
  • Coordinate mail and/or care package support for SA college students; maintain regular communication with officers serving as college liaisons.
  • Establish fellowship opportunities for college age students within the Division which should include service events and discipleship programs.
  • Provide program and spiritual leadership as needed, including but not limited to leading devotions, facilitating prayer time, and engaging in worship meetings.
  • Participate in and assist with the coordination of divisional youth and young adult events and programming including but not limited to DYMA, Youth Councils, Bible Bowl, Family Camp, Women’s/Men’s Camp, and retreats as directed by the Divisional Youth Secretary.
  • Develop and curate captivating content for social media platforms to highlight and promote divisional youth programs.
  • Visit local corps to provide programmatic support as needed.
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and three to five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Reside at Camp Sebago throughout the entire camping season (June-August).
  • Valid driver’s license that meets The Salvation Army's insurance requirements.
  • Active Salvationist in good standing.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to supervise and evaluate subordinates.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with all age groups, particularly children and young adults.
  • Effective public speaking.
  • Travel throughout the Division to collaborate with Corps Officers and Local Officers on youth and camp-related matters.
  • Current First Aid certification
