About this opportunity :
This position is responsible for conducts, and reviews internal audits of Commands located throughout the Potomac Division.
Key responsibilities :
- Conducts audits to discover weakness in accounting systems and possible fraud; audits books and reconciles accounts to determine compliance with established Salvation Army accounting and bookkeeping policies and procedures and to determine financial status; prepares reports and provides recommendations to improve accounting and bookkeeping methods, practices, and procedures.
- Reviews audit findings with the Commanding Officer and the Divisional Finance Manager, Divisional Finance Director, or Divisional Business Secretary and informs them of any mishandling, misrepresentation or misappropriation of funds, statistics, or general data discovered through internal audits.
- Coaches the field staff by providing guidance on financial record keeping, recording and financial analysis.
- Reviews financial statements and reports to ensure they reflect the company’s financial position accurately and that accepted accounting practices are followed.
- Reviews and inspects financial reports and records to ensure accuracy and completeness as well as compliance with rules and regulations governing the same; traces income to ledger and bank statements and reviews and analyzes receipts; reviews and analyzes disbursements and traces checks to ledger; reviews questionable items and problems areas with appropriate personnel; determines if and where fraud exists.
- Conducts special audits of situations or functions with the organization when deficiencies are identified by management and remedial actions are required to protect assets or improve the organizational performance.
